The people around here are generally retired or have a young family. The small remaining partying crowd seem to be rough at the edges. They are the small group of lost souls going nowhere quick. If you take DetroitN8V recommends and go to Scottsdale, make sure you dress up and pretend to be someone with $$'s. You will be competing with mostly $30,000 millionaires who will make you feel poor. In much of Scottsdale, it's not what you make but what you fake! Party on!

hmm, I can't say I can comprehend the assessment of Westgate=TGI Friday's. Maybe Margaritaville is TGI-ish, with the exception of having live music, but the other places are not. Shout House (really raunchy, rowdy), McFadden's (staff dancing in panties and bras on bars, the entire night; bartenders also wear skimpy tees and panties), etc. Westgate & the area across the street is pretty large, so check out the whole area.

Like others said, the area near the ball park (83rd and Bell), has several spots too that are geared for the younger crowd. There are nice bar/restaurants on Lake Pleasant too, and Park West.

You are right nearby the 5th largest city in the US. There's lots of nightlife and stuff to do beyond the immediate area where you're staying. Lots.

Wow, I'm impressed by this crowd coming forward with so many suggestions for a guy who says Surprise sucks and is too blue collar yet he had the brilliant foresight to move to SCW for a few months.

Oh please, I'm out to dinner or for drinks in Old Town at least once a week usually and am typically in shorts and flip flops, as is everyone else. Most people are just out for a good meal or to have some drinks and have fun. The $30k millionaire rep is garbage. I've met some really cool, down to earth people out and about and haven't ever seen the fakeness that people are so quick throw out there.

Have you been there recently? Where were you made to feel as if you had to flaunt your wealth or fake that you have it?

If I drive out to Peoria or Glendale, is there anything to do day or night worth checking out, something where the 20s-30s crowd would be?
While the Phoenix area in general is not exactly NYC, there is some nightlife if you look around. For you the suggestions of Westgate and the area around the Peoria Sports complex (83rd Ave & Greenway) are closest and will be leaps and bounds over SCW. A trip to downtown Phoenix especially on nights when sporting events are happening or to Mid-Town will make you feel better.

Of course the most active nightlife will be in Scottsdale & Tempe on Fri & Sat nights. A little bit of a drag if you are driving but maybe you can hook up with someone who lives closer and can crash with them.

Just watch out for the DUI checkpoints.

It sounds like you are talking about happy hour like settings. We have a plethora of restaurants in Surprise, Glendale, and Peoria a stones throw away where I too am in my short and flip flops. I'm walking distance to a martini bar and 5-10 minutes away from 30 other restaurants. Not so much live music though.. Another 75 spots can be had 10 miles away at 101 and Bell (Arrowhead).

If I am reading the OP correctly, he is looking for some nightlife. I got the feeling that he is into clubbing that kick-off around 11PM-2AM. That doesn't exist in 98% of the Valley including Surprise. Maybe Tony Keith's at Northern and 101. But that's it and you better like Country.

The $30K millionaires don't live in Scottsdale, they pretend to live there. I think it is a great idea for them to drive to your end of town and party till they puke in Scottsdale. Enjoy!

I guess I'm old. Nightlife to me is happy hour, dinner, then a maybe couple more and home by midnight. I forget what it's like to party all night. Having done my version of nightlife at many different places around Scottsdale I've met nothing but cool, genuine people. Maybe that's because I'm not hanging out at clubs though. Is that where that reputation comes from? The club scene? I wouldn't know either way I guess.

Then you can certainly do happy hour, dinner, a couple more, and be home by midnight in Surprise/Peoria/Glendale/Goodyear/Avondale/Litchfield Park.

I can walk to (as in way less than 1/2 mile) to Uptown Alley, Kegs Corks & Forks, Beef O Brady's, La Fuente, and Native Grill for dinner and drinks....Kegs and Forks being exactly what the name implies (Craft beer and wine). No crap on tap at Kegs and Forks, 24 craft taps to be exact.

I can walk to (as in way less than 1/2 mile) to Digiplex for a movie or Uptown Alley (Rivals Lucky Strike) for some live music/bowling/entertainment.

Pretty boring if you ask me . Drinks, food, entertainment with ZERO risk of a DUI.

I was there last night for the hockey game. saw two fights and a dude get tazed by the cops. they were all twenty something idiots. The wait for a table at yardhouse was approaching two hours at 430 in the afternoon, so we went to hell's half acre. I guess if you're looking for dumb and young but attractive people it could be your bag, just not my scene. Finally got to use the phrase "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out". No way I will go there again unless it's prior to a sporting event. TGI Fridays is spot on.

He's visiting family. That's not "moving".
