It also has a monster 2TB drive so It holds 100s of hours of HD content.

My box is a Cisco 9865HDC:

More on it from Cox here:
Digital Video Recorder (DVR), DVR Service | Cox Communications
I may have to upgrade . Thanks so much for taking the time to get me the info. I am way interested since 99% of my tv watching involves watching DVR'ed shows.

If you have the 8300HD you have a two tuner box. You can record two shows at a time or record one and watch another live. With 6 tuners you can... You see where that is going.

It really has nothing to do with the "whole home" concept except that the Cisco DVR with 6 tuners is also a whole home DVR, which means you can watch shows recorded on one machine on TV in another room. There is also a 2 tuner whole home DVR that Cox offers (Cisco 8742HDC).

How can it have nothing to do with "whole home" when it is a whole home DVR...

The 2 tuner box also has half the space of the 6 tuner box.

It has nothing to do with it since you can have a 6 tuner box that isn't a whole home DVR and a whole home DVR that doesn't have 6 tuners. The question was "What exactly is a 6 tuner box". You're right, the 9865HDC has more space, nobody said otherwise.

Your statement contradicted itself, nobody said you couldn't have a whole home DVR that doesn't have 6 tuners. Can you show me an example of a 6 tuner box that can't be used as a whole home DVR? Thats the primary use case for that many tuners, multiple people recording many shows at once. Maybe someone wants to know what else the box can do also. Did I say anyone said otherwise about space, just adding a comparison point to your 1 dimension review of a 6 tuner box vs a 2 tuner box.

I wasn't reviewing anything, just trying to provide an accurate answer to the guy's question. Sorry I got involved...

Let's not get off into a technical discussion which has nothing to do with the OP's question and also is not city-specific.

I got Prism when it first came to Chandler, having been fed up with bad service at Cox. Had replaced 2 cox boxes with no improvement. Went to Century Link and was very very pleased and have been for 2 years. But the price creeps up after the initial enticements fall off. Started at $87 and now is $130 and if you move, they want to know where, so you can take the package with you. My package is Prism excellence (?) or something, one DVR, one TV, internet at 12, and Showtime. I loved it at first. Now, not so much, but what's the alternative. Rabbit ears????????

Call them, hit option to cancel and when they beg you to stay tell them you would but it has gotten too expensive. They'll do some creative things to lower your cost and put you right back to your initial pricing. I just did it with Cox after my initial 12 month promotion was up and my bill climbed to over $250. Got them to lower by $30, they threw HBO in for free and one of the boxes which lowered my monthly bill.

I already tried that, cause it worked with Cox several times when the price got too hi. But Prism is different. They don't care. There is no "retention" specialist.
