I've got Scottsdale on my short list to relocate in about four months. Criteria - Good weather, not rural and not small city, decent Jewish population.

My friend you're hitting the jackpot in Scottsdale.

I believe it is "traditional" Jewish families that walk through town wearing Yamaka's. I see that in Scottsdale every Saturday morning.

Super nice city. Easy to drive, park and shop and almost no violent crime in the nice parts. It's the place to be.

Thanks for the reply. If you walked into a real estate office and wanted a neighborhood that didn't cost $1 million, what would you pick?

Not to hijack the OP's topic at all, but since he's asking where the nice parts under $1,000,000 are, I'd love to know what are considered the "bad parts" of Scottsdale with violent crime.

I know parts of south Scottsdale have a reputation for spates of property crime and burglary, but I'm not sure if they'd be considered "bad"?

You can find sub-million dollar homes in most parts of Scottsdale.

Desert Ridge which is located right next to Scottsdale is new and affordable. $400,000 buys a very nice home. That area and everything east (Scottsdale proper) is great. In Phoenix metro $200,000 is a middle class home. By the time you get up to $300,00 and $400,000 homes you're in a very nice neighborhood.

Not in much of Phoenix proper or Scottsdale. I'm looking with a friend who's looking for a house up to $450k in south Scottsdale, Arcadia Lite, central PHX and the likes and they are either cheap flips or dumps with various levels of upkeep on the street

If you want to meet other Jews in Scottsdale, go to Don & Charlie's. They have great ribs

(I'm Jewish, and I go there every time I'm in town.)

Go to zillow and look up the Desert Ridge area. There are a ton of nice new homes in the $300 to $400 range.

Maybe, but my point was that just because you're buying a $400k house, doesn't mean you'll automatically be in a "very nice neighborhood". In many parts, that's the low end of the spectrum.
