When I retire, I want to get more involved with cars as a hobby. One area we're considering retiring to is Sun City. I've read the CC&R for that community but want to be sure I'm getting it right. Is working on cars in garage permitted?

As long as there is no clutter outside or vehicles not plated and parked anywhere
but on the driveway. quite a few garages are converted carports so look closely
as some are rather small

Sun City West seems to be a bit more into this hobby;

Thanks for the response and link, Mouser. Garage space is very important to me so I will pay close attention to that. And I plan to join a car club. One within the community would be nice as I hope to generate some new friends that way. However, if that fails, there must be many car clubs in the Phoenix also. Which is another reason we're considering moving to a city, much more stuff to do. Have a great weekend!

Sun City is starting a car club, actually it is up and running. The rec people are finding a good place for them right now.

Sun City is on my radar as well.
I already have a car, so I would join the car club for sure.

In case no one has already told you;

DesertCruisers.com - Arizona AZ

Cruisin' Arizona Sponsors

67th Avenue and Bell, at the Kmart, is the largest cruise venue in the area. There are better venues around the valley, but this one draws the largest numbers in the West Valley.

Sun City has a car club, mainly old and restored cars. They have no club garage to work on vehicles.
Sun City West has a car club also plus they are building in conjunction with the SCW rec center a complete Garage/Restoration center as an amenity to Sun City Wester's to actually work on and restore vehicles.

My car is a pretty rare survivor, so all I really need is a club in the retirement community.
And a few more years for '80's cars to become more popular with collectors.

Health permitting, I definitely plan on attending any nearby cruise ins.

Thanks for all the information. I love City-Data forum, it is a great source and you folks are so helpful. At this point I can only imagine how friendly the communities are.

I did a little research on car clubs and groups in Phoenix and as I suspected, there are many, some accepting all makes, models and types, others model specific. There are also more loosely structured internet forum-based entities that aren't full fledged 'clubs' but rather describe themselves as groups.

In short, car culture is alive and kicking in Phoenix. I'm excited!
