I'm with you on that.

I agree in priniciple, but if we're going to be on the hook for a new stadium in the future as it is, I'd think the prudent thing would be to consolidate the projects. I like the Suns, Mercury, Coyotes idea better than the ASU idea. But it needs to stay Downtown. That area by the a Talking Stick resort would be a stadium builders dream, to catch AZs 1% and build luxury areas and whatnot, but the traffic would be just like it is now for many people.

If the taxpayers were good at making decisions in this town, we'd have a much more successful city and probably a few billionaires that could privately develop a stadium for the team(s) ala Seattle/SF. But we don't... so we either pay up and push powers that be to create a solution that can actually be profitable or break even, or we shut up and let the team move away to another place that will figure out a way to build them a home.

Right now it seems the question to tax payers would be to determine the future of the Suns and Yotes in Phoenix. I have a feeling that a yes vote will prevail, even counting your No Vote.

The only potential alternative I see is the reservation near Scottsdale, the Salt River community probably has the funds to make this happen without any taxpayer support. My preference would be for all of this energy to go downtown, which I see this as somewhat beneficial to continuing to develop the core of the valley. Perhaps a land swap could happen? To allow the reservation to fund an arena and other type of development downtown? Would they be willing to pay for an arena if they could put a casino down there?? Hmm...

The land being looked at near ASU, from what I hear is at Karsten golf course (ASU is moving the golf team to Papago). This is within the ASU athletic facility district. ASU is using land sales/leases to developers of land within this area to fund athletic facility projects (for instance some adjoining Karsten land could be sold to developers of hotels/offices etc). I think this is somewhat of a weak location, I would prefer it to be near a light rail stop if it goes in Tempe. Downtown Tempe would be a solid location as there is already enough parking for a theoretical sell out of 20,000 fans or so maximum, so no additional parking garages or surface parking may be needed, but at Karsten you would need to build some garages. It seems partnering with ASU would be the best solution to avoid charging the taxpayers (ASU hockey also received a $32 Million private donation), which is of course why it is being explored as Downtown Phoenix is a better location otherwise.

As a long time Arizonan, you should know this routine well enough now. Just because someone says they're looking actively at new sites for development doesn't mean that anything is actually going to get built. Ever. USA Basketball was actively looking to develop on ASU's campus three years ago and look at what's there now. Nothing. People got excited about the observation tower in Phoenix and that developer was in active talks with the city. Look at what's there now. Nothing. As far as I'm concerned, nothing is official until a ribbon is cut on a fully constructed, new arena.

If they want to move the stadium, let THEM pay for it for once. Arizona can't fund its schools, but they will find a few hundred million of our dollars to buy a stadium for some billionaires and the millionaires that play games there.

If any deal with Phoenix or ASU falls through, I think the next best option would be in the Riverview area of Mesa, which is conveniently located near where the majority of the fanbase lives while still being central enough for most of the Valley. I know some would prefer it on the reservation near Talking Sticks Resort, however, that location IMO isn't central enough for most of the Valley.

Like the Kingdome? Built in 72, torn down in 2000, paid off in 2015.

Not far east Mesa, but the Riverview area near the Tempe border. Seems to be significantly more centrally located than Talking Sticks Resort.
