Thanks. I'm definitely NOT interested in shopping (I'm cheap and don't want to haul my crap back to NJ). But we may go to Scottsdale at some point - I remember being there about 20 years ago but just for dinner.

I would recommend Joshua Tree, but not in August.

Have you done the Grand Canyon?

I'll second driving the Apache Trail. Circle back thru the Globe-Miami area. If you have time stop in at the Bryce Thompson Arboretum.

Is it that bad in August?

Yes, we've taking the train from Williams to the GC and we also rafted it in the past.

Thank you!

You're missing out! I LOVE Big Surf and I have no kids. Floating in that huge wave pool is one of my favorite things to do here in the summer. Very relaxing. I just wish the bar there let you take drinks OUTSIDE.

It's not for everyone. I can understand the OP not being interested, in which case she's not missing out. But, there are folks like you who enjoy it, which is great for all of you. That's why it's good to have choices.

Many people think that waterparks are just for kids. They have gone and spent time taking them down the slides, etc. A friend of mine had that very idea of Big Surf, until I took her this weekend. Now she is talking about when we can go back because she loved the wave pool and the beachy atmosphere and the ability to lounge in the sun and listen to the waves crash and watch people surf. Water parks are NOT always about kids, and Big Surf is a unique one.

Is it for everyone? No. But it isn't typical, either. I do feel people are missing out if they have the wrong idea of the place. I don't have kids or even really like them, but I like it.

Last time I went was February, and it was 85 and sunny. 100's isn't bad when there's the occasional shade, but you're 100% exposed in Joshua Tree. It's a beautiful area but the hiking is best in the winter.

Elletea - I really do appreciate the info. I'm sun phobic and wouldn't be able to spend hours like that in the sun but I will definitely mention it to my boys - they would probably love it! Thanks!
