Gotcha!

I agree about Palm Springs ... doesn't make much sense to go there in the middle of August when it can be just as hot (if not hotter) than Phoenix. About the only thing that can be interesting is the Aerial Tramway, but even that is more enjoyable during the winter than summer. Besides, I can't understand why people fly into Phoenix, and then have such a desire to go out of state (California, Vegas, etc.). I can, however, understand the need to do day trips to Sedona, Prescott, Jerome, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, etc. Hanging around Phoenix during the summer isn't too pleasant unless you're indoors, or at a waterpark.

I have been to the Boulder's Resort and Spa many times and absolutely LOVE it! The spa is so wonderful. I highly recommend the Yuzu Sage Splash. You could book a room there and a service, then you can use the entire spa facilities for the whole day! They also have many activities such as biking, rock climbing, golf etc. It's a beautiful place. In addition you can explore Cave Creek/Carefree while you're there. Fun to look around and there are some good dining spots as well.

Not sure if you're referring to me (OP) but I explained why I wanted to venture out in my initial post. I have to fly into Phoenix for my kids.

Thanks! It's VERY reasonable (about $100/night with my corporate discount) and I think we may be leaning towards it! I've been to Cave Creek back in the day and really liked it.

It really is a beautiful resort, and while it won't be cool by any stretch, the area does enjoy a 5-10 degree temperature differential on any given day.

If you are at all interested, I can recommend a great sunset horseback ride about ten minutes from the resort. I also have restaurant recommendations if you decide to stay at The Boulders.

Please do! Horseback riding would be fun! I'm not a fan of extreme heat but it is what it is, so want to make the most of it...thanks!

It's entirely up to you, but I can't understand the need to visit Palm Springs in the summer. It's kind of a small, boring town with not a whole lot around there to see or do, and it's in the middle of a hot, desolate, unforgiving desert. Do what you want, but why not stay in Phoenix and take advantage of some things here ... or stay within Arizona and explore the attractions the state has to offer?

Is it for everyone? No. But it isn't typical, either. I do feel people are missing out if they have the wrong idea of the place. I don't have kids or even really like them, but I like it.
Was just at big surf for the 8th grade bash on Friday like 6 schools! OMG that was a lot of fun!!!

I wasn't very clear! I meant Carefree is generally 5-10 degrees cooler than Phoenix.

Horseback rides are:

MTM Ranch - Horseback Rides in Arizona (I've done about ten rides with them)

Phoenix Arizona Horseback Trail Riding!
