Appears I may have a job offer around W. Dunlap Ave, & N. 19th Ave. Glendale, AZ area. What is the area like? Where would you suggest living for a fairly easy commute into that area? FYI - I do not have the $ for Scottsdale... Thanks for your suggestions.

Are you buying or renting? What is your budget? That would help to direct you in the right direction. I, personally, wouldn't live in that area, or anywhere near there. It's a poorer area and pretty busy. You could live in the NW area of the valley and it wouldn't be bad. I'd go as far as NW Phx, N. Glendale (Arrowhead Ranch), and N. Peoria.

Knowing your budget would really help.

I think we would want to rent first to get to know the areas, so say $1,200/month.

As far as to buy would like to keep it $260,000 or less.

Great, with your budget you can get into a nice area. I'd stick with my suggestions from earlier. You could go more NE as well, which is real close to Scottsdale and pretty nice. I wouldn't really recommend going West or South as you'd have to go pretty far for a nicer area.

You could also get into North Phoenix, but I'd stick with north of Bell rd for most areas. Maybe even Desert Ridge in the NE area, but they may be more pricey. I find it difficult to suggest areas as this place is just so big. Plus, we are all different and may not like what others do. So, come visit and drive around until you find an area that you really like.

Thanks sablebaby.

What would the commute be like from say the Chandler or Gilbert area to W. Dunlap Ave, & N. 19th Ave. Glendale, AZ?

It would be pretty far. Maybe 1 - 1 1/2 hours. It's really best to stay on the same side of town of where you work. With each person who moves here and travels far for work is another person clogging the already crowded freeways. It just makes the commute for all a little bit longer.

If you stayed on the North side of town, it could be 30 mins or less.

Actually Dunlap and 19th Ave. is not Glendale, it is Phoenix. The zip code is 85021. Glendale is about 7 miles west of there. It is not an area I would choose to live but it is ok for work. I agree that if you go more north and east the area is much better to live in. I would also recommend the area around Northern Avenue and 12th St. for apartments. It is the Pointe Tapatio area and it would be very close to your work. About a 10 to 15 minute commute depending on traffic and you would not have to get on any freeway. In my opinion that is the best part....

definitely come in from the north - that area is pretty close to metro center and close to the 17 - not really the nicest area and not one i'd live in, but fine for work and should be pretty accessible

coming from chandler/gilbert could try some patience - as would coming from the SW valley

arrowhead, north phoenix could work out nicely - some varied neighborhoods there that could probably keep you within 30 minutes of commuting -

Whoops, let me correct the address I would be working at if I took the job.

N. 23rd Ave & W. Dunlap Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85021

Looks like Anthem would only be about a 30 minute drive. Does anyone know what the commute is like from Anthem to this area of Phoenix and back during rush hour? Thanks!

a nightmare - you are tied to the 17 ...... currently 2 lanes until you hit the 101 and then more lanes (but more congestion) all the way in
