Phoenix is really just like living anywhere else honestly. No there's not a large African American population here but you definitely won't feel like you're alone either. You will see black people just about everywhere you go rather it's the mall, grocery store, etc. We have plenty of black barber and beauty shops. You will have to dig for black cultural events though. African Americans are a very small minority here so it can be hard trying to find cultural events and the like but PhxSoul is a great place to start PhxSoul.com - the Online Hotspot for African Americans in Phoenix. You have to keep in mind that the Phoenix area is very transient and almost everyone here is from somewhere else but people are generally very welcoming and friendly regardless of your race.

Then it isn't "racism" is it?

Yes because racism is a belief/set of beliefs.

If they don't state any such beliefs then how would you know? Or do you just "assume"?
