As someone who relocated to Phoenix from the east coast, I have to agree with many of the above posts. I have been pulled over twice in Phoenix in the past two years. Once for driving in the HOV lane and the cop couldn't see the kids in the backseat, and the second time for having a burnt out headlight which I was unaware of. Neither resulted in a ticket.

The level of general respect I was shown from both officer's was enough to change my perspective of law enforcement. I came from an city where you were always looking over your shoulder. It is truly a relief to be somewhere that police are employed for safety rather than a revenue stream.

I agree with you JMW.
That's why I brushed off my incident as a aberration.
I've lived from the east coast to the west, north to the south. The law enforcement in the Valley is the best I've ever seen.
If you read my post history from years ago on City-Data you would see my admiration for the police.
When I first moved here I would see on the local news where an officer from one city in the Valley was arrested for DUI or something from another officer in another part of the Valley.
I couldn't believe it.
Another incident involved former sheriff Joe arresting a Chandler captain for leaving his dog in the car.....I said are you serious???
I fully support the law enforcement in the Valley........including the one that gave me a speeding ticket on Indian School Rd & 61st for endangering the well being of the great citizens of Arcadia as he mentioned in court.

A police officer cannot have a clue as to what he will find when he pulls someone over. He can't assume that you are a law abiding citizen who happens to have a tail light out. For all he knows, you are a hopped-up drug runner who has 2 dead bodies in the trunk, a box of illegal guns in the backseat, and a kidnap victim on the floorboards. They just don't know. To be safe, they need to get close to check the plates and be a little intimidating if need be.

It's always been a dangerous world to be a police officer in, but these days, it's even more dangerous. I don't blame them for being extra, extra cautious.

That being said, it's been awhile since I have been pulled over, but I have never seen the drive to close to fast thing myself, either. If they did it, I get why though.

Default police

The police in az (sunny slope) believe that if a person has a past then
There still wrong its been 12 years ago I made a mistake and I did my
1.6 in prison im not proude of my past however I learned I dont ever want
To go there again. Now I am single and working same job for the l lasr
11 years I own property and haven't even got a ticket but I have been
Pulled over and as soon as they run my name boy their all up in my stuff
Wanting t to look in my truck, and my person. I even tell them to check the dates
But it d do nt matter. I understand there job is not all roses and I would
Want my child to be very careful if he was a policeman. But sometimes
They do get a tad full of themselves. I had to have a attorney call the watch commander
Just so they would stop yelling at me and saying my plates were fake and I had no insurance and my license
Was suspended. When I had all legal insurance plates and dr license. Had I not known my rights lord knows
What could have happened to me or even why that happen. Im not perfect but I learned its a lot easier to work
Hard then to try and be a criminal always looking over your shoulder knowing soon your going to get busted, and everyone
Does. So yes I believe the phoeonx police are a tad full of themselves
