That's why I mentioned being fined or "whatever else". There has to be a penalty of SOME kind for breaking a law, regardless of which category it falls into. Otherwise what's the point.

Unbelievable! After the Trump administration announced crackdowns/denying federal funding to cities which don't cooperate with immigration laws, the City Council and Mayor Stanton are considering acting on a petition to declare Phoenix a "sanctuary city". Are they out of their minds?! We have enough of a problem with illegals as it is. We don't need to become another San Francisco in this regard.
I'm all for securing the border, but blaming illegal immigrants as the root cause of our various problems is overblown and incorrect.

There are about 300-325k illegal immigrants in the Phoenix area, out of a total about 4.6M people... which ... 325K/4.6M = 7%.
You're saying they're a major problem if they're only 7% of the entire population of the Phoenix metro area?

How about a bigger problem: 27% of Phoenix residents hold a Bachelor's degree or higher. Only 8 or 9% or so of those 27% hold graduate degrees (MS, PhD). Now that's a much bigger problem we have, dumb people not studying.

What does having a degree relate to following the law and securing the southern border of the US? Educated people want open borders and 'dumb' people want to enforce the law? The United States is a country of US citizens, not immigrants.

They're not supposed to be related. But I put that out there to place this immigration issue in the grand scheme of things and see if it's really that big of a problem as everyone says. We have far more serious issues than a bunch of illegals.

Like I said, I'm not against securing the border. Go ahead secure it. Blaming illegals cause you can't make ends meat? You can only blame yourself.

By law, the City Council must act on citizen petitions within 15 days. In other words, they have no choice but to consider the matter once a petition has been submitted. Actions they can take within 15 days include accepting the proposal, rejecting it, or referring it for further study. If the mayor and council choose a course of action you disagree with, by all means criticize them and vote against them -- but at this point everyone is doing only what is legally required of them by the city charter.

I just want to point out that there are real safety reasons for becoming a Sanctuary City - What if you are robbed by an illegal immigrant. All of his neighbors know who did it but they will not go to the police if they think the police will turn them in and have them deported.

Local law enforcement have their hands full trying to enforce local laws. If they need to spend time enforcing Federal immigration law then they have less time, money, and resources to solve the everyday crime that happens. And they need the locals to want to cooperate with them to solve crimes. That is the major reason; not to help the illegals but to help everyone else.

Really? My ancestors would beg to differ... and many of their descendants would gladly see you leave and give us our land back. Please, put your money where your mouth is on this issue.

Well sure, let's not address the root cause of the issue, ie not enforcing the border/our immigration laws/rule of law because of political interests/business interests, and accept/embrace illegal behavior by protecting them in a nice pleasant sanctuary safe space so we can get illegals to turn in other illegals when one does a crime.

Just when I thought I've heard everything......

And tell the many people/families of your plan who have had a loved one killed in the Phoenix metro by someone who was in this country illegally/shouldn't have been here in the first place.

Rah Rah, anarchy rules, rah rah. Pick and choosy law time being decided upon right here in Phoenix. Amazing. Next on the docket.....home robbers.....just people who need things a bit more than me and you.....sanctuary spaces in Phoenix for them? Stay tuned for more insanity.

What makes you feel that land should belong to descendants? It doesn't work that way anywhere in the word.
