Huh? I can tell you in an apartment we never had a bill over $200 let alone $300-$400 in the summer months. You must keep it really cold inside 24x7 to rack up that kind of bill.

But at my current job here in Eugene, Oregon I'm making 17.22 as my base and 1.25 for working eves. It comes out to be 18.47 an hour. My question is that would my money go far in AZ? I know Oregon is a little bit more expensive to live. But I had added it all up and it came to be the same amount of money. Here in Oregon I'm working 36 hours a week vs 40 there. Is it worth it to move? I would like everyone's input before I make a decision! Thank you!!!!
Honestly I'd just stay in OR.State jobs come with nice benefits (although they take 10% of your check for them) but they're a dead end and your income will stay the same the entire time you're there.

If you have a compelling reason to move here do it, but this place isn't worth a pay cut.

GO FOR IT, Rico . . .

Many years ago when I relocated to Arizona (Tucson, not Phoenix) from California, the starting base pay vs my previous pay was a real shocker to me.

However, I quickly learned after only a month or two that pay rates were not nearly as important as how much is left over after paying all my bills.

Granted, Oregon is not as expensive as California but both are more expensive than Arizona.

. . . plus the weather is far superior!

Good Luck.

Also I use to live in Las Vegas. Are you guys saying that it's more expensive than Vegas?

if you're happy enough in OR and the job is entirely stable and secure (no layoff fears), I'd stay up there......I think the tradeoff between there and here is entirely even.....the only difference may be the more conservative state legislature down here keeping things stagnant (a reason to stay up there)....

yes, cost-of-living down here is less, but the pay cut wipes that benefit out.....

No, i think it's about the same as Vegas here. What were saying is don't come here for a pay cut over Oregon. Is there a reason you need to stay at a state hospital versus going to a private or public hospital with more competitive wages? And what is the reason for your move? Just a change in scenery or something more that makes you want to live here?

On the plus side...it is County so you are eligible for the Pension plan. If that is a starting wage and you REALLY want to move to PHX...go for it. Once you are an employee you can look at other positions and/or get the education/training needed to move up.

The pay cut isn't enough to make your life any different than it likely is in Oregon due to cost of living difference.

So I think the better question is, would you be happier in general living in Phoenix compared to Oregon? They are almost complete opposites in most social, political and climate related scenarios.

Getting more education for a better state job isn't worth a dime. This is because they prefer to hire out of state people rather than promote from within. How many times qualified and experienced lifers that I worked with were passed over for some "more qualified" idiot from another state. Made no sense at all. And it lowered morale intensely.

You're tired of Oregon I can feel it in your vibe.
Get to this sunshine and give your soul a rest. No amount of money can satisfy the needs of your soul.
I would live here here for minimum wage. And only wisdom and life experience can justify this.
You can always find a better job especially when it's built on the foundation of a satisfied soul.
People earning $16 an hour are worried about buying food & making the rent payment, not self-actualization.
A couple levels down on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. This move is unlikely to bump them up a level & may well make basic survival harder.
