Hi Everyone!!! I don't know if this is the right place to post this? But I had have a interview at the state hospital and they had offered me 15.34 as a base pay and 10 percent for working nights and its comes out to be 16.87 am hour working 40 a week. But at my current job here in Eugene, Oregon I'm making 17.22 as my base and 1.25 for working eves. It comes out to be 18.47 an hour. My question is that would my money go far in AZ? I know Oregon is a little bit more expensive to live. But I had added it all up and it came to be the same amount of money. Here in Oregon I'm working 36 hours a week vs 40 there. Is it worth it to move? I would like everyone's input before I make a decision! Thank you!!!!

I know about that tool! I just want to know about the experience from people first hand. If I'm making a wise decision or not.

There are two huge variables - the costs for benefits from both employers & housing costs in both places.. I doubt you'll feel "rich" in the Phoenix metro with a wage like that. The average state employee is underpaid by 15% & that's according to the state's own HR department- there are no plans that I'm aware of to correct that in the foreseeable future.

Personally, I wouldn't move to get a pay cut with an organization that has no plans / ability to ever reward you for good work.

I doubt you would be better off financially here, but probably not worse either, due to the higher col in OR. So to me it seems like the decision should be based on where would you rather live. Keep in mind that you may be able to negotiate a higher wage.

After working some part time and contract jobs since I retired here a couple of years ago, I have come to the conclusion that the Phoenix metro area pay scales are just plain pathetic! I always watch the job sites just to see if anything pops up that interests me and every time it does, the pay isn't worth starting my car!

Good luck!

Anything less than $18/hr is working poor here in the Valley. Only ways to have a decent QOL on less than $36k/yr here are to have roommates or a gf/bf/spouse that also works

You can't negotiate anything with the state. It is what it is. Salary is set in stone and if you ever get a raise, that will be a real miracle. Yes, it's probably cheaper to live here, but the other aspects of where you live should outweigh this one.

Yeah, the state legislature and governor thinks they make way too much already. You will be stuck at the salary for years unless you can get promotions. And don't forget, they take about 11-12% of your top line for state retirement and also take out social security. The grass is not greener in Phoenix. Stay where you are.
