We're getting ready to move to the Eagle Highlands North/Stetson Valley area shortly.
Here in suburban Chicago-land, I frequently deal with power outages, either during severe storms, or when our wonderful Electric Utility, Comm Ed has some other un explained issue.
I bought a 9000 W generator a few years ago, and its been a good insurance policy to keep the fridge/sump pumps, and some fans running when the electricity goes out.

My question is, can anyone tell me if that is a serious issue in the area I am moving to?
Its a PITA to move the generator cross county, although I could just buy a new one when we move, but I dont hear about alot of power outages in the Phoenix Metro area..

Whole house backup generators, run by natural gas, are sort of popular around here now, but at around 8k installed, its not a cheap proposition, plus, not sure if its even legal to install them in Phoenix, or, even worse, in my HOA!

Thanks for any insight you can give me on this..

I can't comment specifically on the area you are taking about, but having lived here almost 20years, never had a need for a generator. And I don't know anyone that has one. I'm sure people do, but that's just my experience.

I have lived in Surprise for about 10 years. From what I can remember 2-3 times power has went out. Less then 1 hour each time. 1 of those outages was planned for some type of upgrade.

Been here 32 years, all my life, and I don't remember any prolonged period of outages. All the hate APS and SRP gets, and I hate APS, they do keep the power on really well.

thanks!
