Is an extra $43 a month really worth it to move out of state? I'm trying to get perspective.

here's the comparison chart for those that want to see the differences between all the new plans.

https://www.aps.com/library/rates/PlanComparison.pdf

I did the comparison tool they have on the site, and it looks like the plan that will least increase our bill is the "Saver Choice" It'll bump it $140 for the whole year.

Am I correct in thinking that the new "Demand" on peak per KW is a charge on the highest hour usage for that day times the number of KW used for that hour?! If so, then that's an insane amount! I can see people getting caught off guard from this when they get their electric bill if they switch to those two plans.

Well that was short lived - APS has taken down the "Comparison tool" off of their website. Guess its better to not show people the truth.

The Demand charge is the highest one hour peak demand, not total usage for that house.

You can actually see this in your APS account as well by clicking on "My Energy" and then on "Demand Usage".

Not sure what you mean on the demand, but what they do is look at the electric demand (not usage) and find the highest hour and multiply that amount by the demand charge. An example probably works better. Say it's summer and its miserable and your a/c runs non-stop for the entire hour. Your a/c pulls 6.4 amps when it is running. They take 6.4 amps times the demand charge for your rate plan. The way to "beat" it is to keep the demand down. Make sure that two big things are not using power at the same time. I have been on a demand plan for 20 some years. Back in the day, we had no choice out where I live, but they did provide a load controller that let you set demand and cycle the big appliances so it would not be exceeded. The load controller bit the dust years ago and I don't think you can even find them anymore. It is very easy to let that demand get out of control. Baking in the peak in summer, or kids turning your electric water heater on to take a shower can kill you.

yeah that's what I meant. The highest hour, and take that amount of KW used in that hour, times the demand charge.

yeah luckily I kept a tab open last night of the page. I can't believe they'd take it down. I guess they want to confuse people even more, in hopes of them changing their plan that doesn't save them the most money.

When you run the compare tool you get "No Data to display" right now.

I ran this months bill against the new rate plan Premier Choice Large and it actually looks like it would save me $30 over the plan I have now (time ADV 7-noon).
Maybe I'm figuring it wrong?
