Deep: your number one priority should be getting a vehicle of some sort. As others mentioned, this area is hell to get around without a vehicle. If in the event the sh*t hits the fan, if you have a car, you can sleep in it and stop at the YMCA or other places for showers. I would plan to live like you're camping for a year, get the cheapest studio, work hard, and build your way up from there. It definitely can be done, it just isn't easy.

Me thinks your demons are going to follow you. Trying to solve problems by running away from them will only bring new ones.

Good luck and make sure whatever baggage you're battling is not exposed to a prospective employer. Drama producing secrets are fairly easy for an HR hiring expert to spot.

Good points and good advice, Elna Rae . . .

However, sometimes a "Fresh Start on a Clean Slate" works wonders.

Once again . . . Good Luck to Deep In Trouble.

Okay. I'm not running away from anything.my issue is as a contractor I am constantly paid late sometimes waiting 6 weeks between pay checks. This has caused me to fall behind on my rent.I have worked out an agreement with my building where I am leaving just all of my possessions, this and the security deposit will cover the back rent. So basically I am coming with the clothes on my back, and a tablet, Amazon Echo and a streaming device. I need to vacate on the 21st I don't speak to my family as an adopted child my brothers and sisters don't treat me like part of the family. I can't afford the rent in NY. Have always wanted to live in Arizona since I was a kid when we went to the Grand Canyon. Didn't want to put to much information about myself out there but this is a clean slate and a fresh start

**** the naysayers on this board. Plenty of people in Tempe live without a car. If you want to move, do it and don't seek approval from people on this board. Life is too short to live someplace you hate.
You can worry about getting a car when you move to AZ.

Giving rational advice is not being a naysayer. It's the voice of reason for a high risk move. The only people I know of in Tempe who don't have a car are college students and low-income. As its been stated before, the OP needs to have a plan B, because coming to AZ with only $5k, no car, no job and no family is highly risky although not impossible.
