I want some recommendations of good Chinese restaurants (non-chain) in north Phoenix. A few I checked out online, Big Buddah, Shanghai Grill, Oriental House, Grand Dragon, Abacus Grill and Golden Dragon. Which one did you like and are there any others you could point out? It doesn't have to be fancy, but good service and tasty food.

The best Chinese food is found along Dobson Road in Mesa and Chandler. That said, I like Silver Dragon at 12th Street & Northern. I'm not sure if that's far enough north for you, but if it is, I'd give it a try.

I've heard great things about Abacus, but never tried it myself. I haven't heard of any of the others. I work near 19th / Deer Valley and we are sadly lacking good Chinese options near my office.

Mesa is a bit further east than I had in mind, but I go there once in a while for shopping at Mekong Plaza and AZ International Marketplace. Both locations offer Veteran discounts.

Big Buddha has been there for at least ten years. I haven't been that way in awhile, but as I recall the food is pretty good. It's not authentic but it's of good quality.

Abacus Inn off 59th avenue and the 101. Been going there for years. Big Buddha is good but not North Phoenix...it's in Surprise.

Well, personally... I once had an unhappy experience with
MSG ... so, over the last decade or more I've avoided it.
However, lately... if I do/must eat
Chinese, I'll usually select the highly recommended
FAST (and generally decent)
Panda Express .
And even then...
only eat the orange chicken & fried rice.

Oriental House in Peoria is relatively new, probably a year or a little more. It is near my work and I've eaten there several times and it is just okay. T & J right down the road (on olive) is much better in this area.

Going to have to try that one.
I like Dao Kitchen at 83rd and Deer Valley, their lunch prices are really good. Also at Lake Pleasant and Happy Valley are two good sushi places, Squid Ink and Sushi Doraku.
