Yep, I agree with Ponderosa on this one; we live out that way, and all those things are really close, the traffic is ALOT better than metro phoenix/scotsdale/tempe, and, I can get to Sedona from my house in 60 minutes...I can also get to downtown phoenix in 30 minutes or so, non rush hour, so it should be on your check out list...

LOL, where do you live? How fast are you going? No, you can’t make it to Sedona in an hour.

‘A lot’ is two words, just FYI, among other things.

I'm pretty far NW and Google has Sedona at 1 hr 45. And downtown is currently 40 minutes. The lake is 30 minutes away and all the shopping/food you would ever need is 10-20. This at 4 am where there is zero traffic, no I don't sleep.

My neighborhood is about 300 homes and we have a pretty regular group of us that go off-roading out here a few times a month. Look in the NW valley (Vistancia, North Peoria) you can easily get a nice home in your price range. And you should always pay attention to the schools as that will have an impact on resale.

You are correct, I overlooked that disclaimer.....Eugene reminds me of Santa Cruz in the 70's.

Hitting the trails on an OHV/ATV is my type of fun as would a day on a lake fishing, or some time at a shooting range. I just don't seem to have a lot of time for much of anything lately though. The shopping checklist in my mind is set by just being near a huge city like PHX -- if you need something, it's probably within driving distance.

I just need a decent house that's low maintenance, preferably without an HOA, neighbors that aren't in my business (or are further away), that Internet connection that's required for work, and some fast food/take out places that are within convenient driving distance.
Okay...Fountain Hills? I haven't looked at the price of homes out that way recently but it may be manageable. Ft McDowell Casino is right there, Saguaro Lake, Tonto National Forest for ATV...or NE Mesa. Same proximity sans Casino but add the Superstitions. I would stay out of the Payson/Pinetop Rim country is a reliable Internet connection is a requirement...one outage can last a day or so up there and shopping is...sparse. NW Valley may be a good choice as well, close to Lake Pleasant but that is a pretty busy lake.

I’ll add East Mesa. You’d be by the Superstitions (great 4x4 trails and places to shoot) and you’d be near Lake Roosevelt, Horsehoe, and Bartlett. You’d also have quick access to rim country and the White Mountains (which I personally prefer over the crowded Flagstaff/Sedona trek)

In your position, I’d be looking basically at the eastern and northeastern fringes as well as the northwestern fringe of the city.

Tonto is overrun with people and so many restrictions now on what you can do there in the easily accessible regions. The Coconino NF is slowly getting the same way. You have to go to the north Kaibab if you want some solitude anymore. Pleasant is busy but it is so big that it is not an issue - at least out on the water. There is a lot of shoreline to drive to on the north side where you can camp away from the crowds. The Salt River lakes are much more crowded but for either spot, it's mostly that way just on weekends. Mesa or Fountain Hills has quick access to the Salt River too which has trout fishing in winter.

But on the Salt you have access to 4 different lakes...Roosevelt (largest in the state), Canyon, Apache and Saguaro. Last time we were on Saguaro there was no one there until about 11AM. Plenty of time to go back in the canyon and do some fishing. Same with Canyon...get off the main lake back into the canyon and it isn't so bad. I haven't been to Apache lately so I can't comment...it is so small and more difficult to get to many people overlook it. Roosevelt...while it is more of a hike is HUGE. Last time we were there (about a month ago) we were almost the only boat on the water. Roosevelt was down about 60' though and a few of the ramps were closed due to sending more water downstream.

Horseshoe and Bartlett are in N Scottsdale...no where NEAR East Mesa.
