We are looking to possibly buy a house in Cave Creek. The house is located off of Cave Creek Hwy in a gated community. I notice there is a wash area behind the house/neighborhood. Is this concerning? Is the highway loud at nightime? Can we see the stars really well at night? Thank you.

Don't know anything about that part of town in particular. But do know that washes are used as travel corridors for wildlife. Not that big of a deal, but if you have a cat or small dog I wouldn't let either out of my sight. Our house backs up to a wash and the cat we brought with us lasted 10 days until either a coyote, owl or bobcat got him.

Cave Creek Highway? Never heard of it.

Maybe this is really an inquiry about the Carefree Highway? If so, that road runs over 15 miles, starting in north Peoria and running all the way through far north Phoenix to north Scottsdale and the town of Carefree itself.

Or maybe Cave Creek Road, which runs from the Sunnyslope neighborhood of Phoenix all the way up to where Scottsdale borders the Tonto National Forest.

Please clarify which one you mean and, if possible, provide a more specific location.

As Exit2lef mentioned, there is no "Cave Creek Highway" but there is Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway.

I can't answer your question about the neighborhood, but I can tell you that you won't see stars and other heavenly objects very clearly at night mainly because of the lights of the Phoenix metro area. I can also tell you that I live in northwest Phoenix and I'm able to see a lot of the planets in our solar system at certain times of the year, and a many of the stars in our galaxy, like Betelgeuse, Sirius and others. Overall, you won't see the night sky as clearly as you would at the top of a 10,000 foot peak and away from any metro areas. Typically you'd have to drive about 70 miles away from any populated areas to be able to see many details of the night sky like the picture below.

Sorry, N. Cave Creek Road / E. Rancho Paloma (the community is off of N. Cave Creek Road.

Okay. That's near where Cave Creek Road intersects the Carefree Highway, so it's understandable the two got mixed in your question.

Highway noise -- I don't imagine it will be too bad. The Carefree Highway is more an arterial street than a freeway.

Stars at night -- As stated above, you'd have to go farther from the metro area to gain much visibility.

Wash -- As stated above, pets should be kept indoors most of the time.

Other considerations:

Pro: Near good hiking trails, especially Cave Creek Regional Park and Spur Cross Ranch

Con: A long commute to most employment centers

Where there is a wash....there are flash floods. Could be interesting in the Summer during Monsoon.

Just to be clear, the house you’re looking at is in Phoenix most likely, with a Cave Creek mailing address. Cave Creek proper doesn’t go south of Carefree Hwy. it’s a long ignored real estate scam that realtors won’t tell you about. When I asked my realtor about it she hemmed and hawed and said SHE lived in Cave Creek. I said when you dial 911, who responds? Phoenix. Who picks up your trash? Phoenix. I said, well, you live in Phoenix then . . .

I think you’re right.

It’s really close to what one agent called “North North Scottsdale” but sadly, not within the city boundaries.

We had two agents try to sell us the “This house isn’t in Phoenix, it’s in Scottsdale” line of bull on various houses.
