Just to be clear though (before this gets shut down anyway), you rent a room in a house and blew $150 on a fish tank?
Yes, but I do not own a car. Would you have the same reaction to someone who rents a room and purchased a used car for $1,000.00 and pays hundreds of $ a year on insurance, maintenance and gas? In my view, that fits into the category of being wasteful or living above your means. The fish tank is something I need to pursue my hobby which is not nearly as expensive as throwing money away on a car which is a money pit.

Oh, well, since you put it that way, it makes total sense.

Your roommate is a snitch and could not work things out as an adult with a mature conversation. Imagine complaining about fish. I'd work on getting rid of that roommate.
