I am going to try the "snowbird thing" this winter and have it narrowed down to the Mesa/Tempe area so I am close to the "outdoorsy stuff," especially hiking.

I got confused and overwhelmed when I searched AirBnb (for the first time!) and decided that it would be best to stay in a known hotel/motel/condo that would offer similar amenities like a kitchen, living room...basically a small studio or suite.

Since I am totally unfamiliar with the area (with the exception of it being recommended by the kind folks on this forum!), I was looking for some suggestions for moderately priced accommodations that are located in nice areas, preferably quiet and within walking distance of dining, coffee shops, etc. I expect to be driving to hiking and other outdoorsy locations.

Any guidance, direction and suggestions would be greatly appreciated....and please feel free to suggest places outside...but still close to... the Mesa/Tempe area.

Thank You!

FYI, almost EVERYWHERE in the Valley is close to "outdoorsy" stuff, so you don't have to limit yourself to Mesa/Tempe area..

No, you are not far from outdoorsy stuff. From Mesa you can get to the Superstition mountain or the Salt Lake River within 20-30 minutes, depending on where you will be staying. You will also be near Canyon & Saguaro lakes and all the water activities and hiking offered in those areas.

Forget “Mesa/Tempe area.” That’s not even a phrase. Go to Scottsdale. Stay in a hotel.

I did this twice before getting an actual room mate for 2 months that turned out to be a great deal cheaper and made a friend. I stayed in Sedona for about a week then stayed in Mesa around the Dobson Ranch area for a week. Both were great hosts and I got alot of hiking in.

There are several suite type hotel chains offering daily and weekly rates. A popular one is at 6th Ave and Indian School..can't get much more central than that, and is urban, walkable, and somewhat safe...light rail is right there, too. Budget Suites of America.

7-10 days? So you are basically taking a vacation...not really becoming a snowbird. Anyway, try a Residence Inn pretty much anywhere in the Valley. They will have all the accommodations you need
