Hi all!

So I have a bit of a dilemma and need some advice from some natives.

I currently live in Northern California (originally from the East Coast), and have lived here almost 2-years. I turn 22 in July, so I'm young, but I really am not a fan of the area.

I've been to PHX twice - one time for a solid month. As a result, I know all the ins and outs (for the most part) of the area, and honestly I loved it. If I could have moved there then I would have.

I just started going back to school - I have prospects, and would ultimately LIKE to attend ASU Tempe.. but if it's not viable (given the year residency requirements, which in my case would prolong my diploma without financial aid), then I'll stay here if I have to.

Ultimately, I'm just wondering first-hand from natives of the area what you would recommend. I currently work in a medical-billing related field (not as a career choice, mind you.. but its giving me valuable training), and looking on Craigslist, Jobing.com, and some others it looks like I'd have to set myself up with a staffing agency and stuff first. It's a lot of effort and I don't know if it's be worth it - either move now, or wait until I finish my degree in 4 years and move there with that.

I'd prefer now since I'm inpatient, but in the same sense I don't want to wind up unemployed and homeless if I decide to just "go for it". I really like the Tempe, Chandler, and Gilbert areas and can see myself as a homeowner in your fine state some years down the road when I'm better off financially.

I guess all I'm asking is what would you do if you were in my shoes?

Thanks!

There are plenty of medical related jobs. Although, I have heard sometimes employers don't want to talk to you until you are physically here. Maybe you could take a trip, interview, land a job then move. Work for a year, gain residency and then go to ASU? Im from N.Ca too. I think someone your age can have a great life here. The areas you mentioned would be fine if you liked them. Good luck!

I'd suggest you look within the (huge and diverse) CA system to find a different environ. You never mentioned your area of study so it would seem you simply want a change of scenery. Given the advantages of in state tuition and ease of transfer credits, you can crank out a basic degree in no time while choosing from a variety of places to live in state.

You can always move here later and get a job (easier with any type of degree) and still take some classes or get another degree at ASU.

Don't be in a hurry. You're young and the world is your oyster. You've got plenty of time to worry about where to settle. This is the best time of your life to to explore.

Default Take the chances when your young and are suppose too!!

On the other hand you can just do a year in between at a community college out here then finish up at ASU. There are tons of jobs to be had here and it's cheap. If you want to come I wouldn't wait. I waited to leave here when I wanted to go and that was when I was 25, I ended up having kids and getting married and I still live here. Im trying to get out to this day. Sometimes a little "take a chance" goes a long way. I would just come on over, you can always go back home if it doesn't work out. You are young, do it now. It's a lot harder when your older and start a family and all that stuff. It happens before you know it.
