Hi all,

I have condo in Scottsdale and I need to replace my AC unit. It's a small condo but the unit needs to be placed on the roof (3-4 floors up) and we are getting a quote of $2650. Seems pricey to me. (But, perhaps it's a fair price?) Since we want to shop the price I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to try. We are in WI so we aren't familar with the businesses out there and would really appreciate any input!

Thank you!

The condo management company should be able to refer you to several companies that are familiar with that complex. Just call the manager and ask.

Thanks, Bill. The manager however, is a...well...let's just say he's not nice and that's why I decided to ask elsewhere.

I had a great experience with Howard Air recently. I will never use anyone else.

I wonder if there is anybody who can work on AC units that doesn't charge $1,000 per ton. I have a 5K ton unit that went out and had to pay $5,000 to replace it. Anybody have any recommendations that has a better idea on replacement.

I had a well known company tell me my 5 ton unit needed repairs totaling $1200 about a year and a half ago. I called up Gary's AC (602-350-3131); he came out; had the unit up and running (for the next year and a half) at a cost of $75. When it recently shorted out due to the monsoon/dust storm; guess who I called to replace it? P.S. $2600 sounds about right for a 2 ton -should be able to get a good unit; also if you replace with a high energy unit there are utility rebates (SRP/APS) - plus, federal tax credits if you didn't use them up last year!

I bought a new 3-ton unit at "cost" and paid $1445 for the unit. This was one of the lower priced models. Other models were up to $2,000 at cost. I realize you can't get one at cost and do the labor yourself, but at least that'll give you an idea of around what they run at cost. Adding labor and their profit on the unit, $2650 doesn't seem horribly bad if it's a good, high energy model. If it's not high energy, I think you might be paying too much. Best to get several quotes before making a decision.
