Now that's just sad! I've only been to Jackson and it was only for a week but..yikes!!! I hope beyond measure that I never have to live or raise my kids anywhere in the south.

I don't think that's fair to a lot of good places and good people in the south.

Anyway in a few years Arizona will replace Mississippi as the benchmark for bad education.

Public schools are generally lower quality regardless of location, and it's because the government is running, managing, and funding them. The Phoenix area may not have the best public schools, but there are certainly some decent private schools as alternatives. Why any parents who value education would want to dump their kids in the public system is beyond me, especially if they're in the higher income brackets. My guess is they're either too lazy or too cheap to put forth the effort & make the investment. Either way, it's poor parenting ... however, too many people would rather take the easy way out by expecting the government to raise & educate their offspring, and then complain about the so called lack of funding. The parents who think this way need to wake up & realize that they're part of the problem.
