I will be moving into my first home and was looking around for some furniture places. They all pretty much have the same style of stuff. I am interested in a more Japanese style with clean lines. Some contemporary furniture also fits the bill. But I haven't seen any stores like that, specifically on the west side. Anyone know of any anywhere in the valley? And Ikea does not count. I've been there.

I have seen a couple websites like Copenhagens(I think its called), but some of that stuff is a little too modern/weird for me.

I'm a Copenhagen fan. They tend to put their most avant-garde stuff on the Web site. There are more sedate styles in the store, especially in their moderately priced affiliate, Denmarket.

You might also try Haus, on Central Ave just south of Camelback.

Try the website for Room and Board. They don't have a lot of stores (there's only two in California and none in Arizona).

There's a crate & barrel over near the copenhagen's. We've got Cost Plus, as well as Pier 1 - something might suit your taste their. Personally, Pruitt's is my all time favorite furniture store in Phoenix, and worth checking out - lots of selection. Maybe not Japanese inspired, but a decent collection of modern vs. traditional, and a lot more variety than your normal furniture store. Red is a furniture store right off of 2nd Street & Camelback - I think it's still there. A little weird for me, but supposedly modern. Robb & Stucky's has a few modern lines of furniture, that's a fun place to check out as well.

I bought a futon from a Japanese style place off of camelback near central. The place is called futon favorite. Google it, you'll find it.

Oh, I like that West Elm site. That is very close to what I like. Modern, clean lines but not cold and weird. I want to be able to see and touch my future furniture though. Thats the type of local store I want to see.

Oh nice, I see on their website that there will be a location in Scottsdale in 2009. Awesome.
