Even though there is a need for more highrises in the Valley, I said a while ago that there were too many condo projects on the books ... especially luxury condos. While a certain amount of upscale highrise condos are needed, there's really MORE of a need for hotels and office towers.
I think you really nailed it here. The prices they are asking are just not realistic for Phoenix, and for the demographic that would be interested in these types of condos. Young hip professionals, and working artists would never be able to come up with this kind of money...at least to the extent that the developer would be able to fill up all these new buildings. Most of these are only one or two bedroom units. These buildings also have astronomical hoa fees, sometimes up to $800 a month.

I can't imagine having to park in an underground garage and then going way up and down all day when for less money you can buy a gorgeous house in a wonderful wooded neighborhood in the area from Missouri to Butler, straight up Central Avenue. A 10 minute drive to downtown if that is where you work.

I think it all comes down to lifestyle and such. I'd rather, and eventually will live in a condo of this type soon...keeping fingers crossed. I don't want or need a house with a yard. Nor do I really use my car. So I'd just walk in, elevator, floor, home. Sounds amazing and wonderful to me. But then to my parent's it would be pure agony. They love living in a house, with a lawn, and a garage for the cars they use everyday.

I saw a residential highrise building in downtown Charlotte, NC, that has a car elevator that you can use to go right up to your floor, pull out of the elevator, and park your car right next to your 20th or whatever floor condo.....

The common area maintenance fee and association fee must be quite high; for far less you can get a yardman and pool man for a nice home in North Central. Plus the schools are top notch.

People who want that kind of lifestyle mostly don't have kids, so schools don't matter. But I agree with everything else you said.
