Me and my wife are looking to move to gilbert arizona or for that matter any safe town in that area...shes hispanic (dominican) and I am white....shes worried there will be zero (non-mexican) hispanics in the area....Is that true...if so is there a safe area where that might be more applicable near Gilbert? I appreciate thoughts and feedback?

Um, err...........let's put it this way.........its not Florida in terms of having a very visable non-Mexican hispanic pop but not many places are. I met non-Mexican hispanics when I lived in PHX but I didn't see many and I lived in Chandler which is pretty similar to Gilbert in makeup.

Florida doesn't have Mexican-Americans, they have Cuban-Americans and many of those Cuban Americans are first generation so they still have a strong Cuban identity and are thus easier to identify. In Arizona, you can't distinguish most of the legalized Mexican Americans because many of them are second and third generation are mixed. However, that doesn't mean these people don't identify themselves as Latino or Mexican-American. In short, there are a lot of non-Mexican Hispanics here but you probably were not able to identify them. I wasn't here either when I first moved here and I had the same impression you did.

I will make this simple to digest....I myself am half dominican...and half puerto rican....I have other hispanic friends in Gilbert who are hispanic...some are second generation mexican......some are dominican...etc....This is a mostly white area...so are most other places in America...You can find plenty of hispanics and plenty of white people....If your white or hispanic you can find other people of same ethnicity...its easier if your white but you can find other hispanics...

Why would people talk about race at all? Language barrier yes ; race no. People who do not speak English cannot communicate with people who speak English.

Hmmmm. Plenty of Hispanic (Mexican/central American origin) in my area- all suburban, educated types. It's definitely not "all White"...BUT...I don't think that there's a huge community, per se, of Dominican, Puerto Rican or other Hispanic "Non-Mexican" types. I think people who live in this area have to live harmoniously with people of other races, because there are plenty of other races here. There are certainly some whackadoo racists mixed in, just like any other community- but I really don't think for all it's Wonder-bread homogeny, Gilbert is a super racially segregated area.

This race stuff is self inflicted fear.
If it is paralyzing enough to seek anecdotal advice from this forum, you maybe more comfortable staying where you are.
