I booked a supershuttle from the airport to the Hertz, it was about 20 bucks and a 5 minute drive.

The rental "office" is a rented trailer in the back of a mercedes benz dealer lot.

We dropped the car off at the airport, no extra charge there.

We saved about $250 for a one week rental, search around for rental codes to save more.
There is a light rail stop at Central and Indian School that is convenient to this rental location.

I don't know about them.I'll be going out that way in early April and booked from Hertz Local over on West Indian School Road. The same car being picked out from Sky Harbor for a 6 day trip was quoted at about $200 higher, and there is no extra charge to drop off at the airport.

My understanding is that you can not drop off a rental car at the Sky Harbor airport unless you rented it at that location. That's the information I was given last year when I wanted to do this from a rental location off site.

The last time I flew in to Sky Harbor Airport, I booked a room at a hotel that provided transportation to and from the airport . Then I rented a car from Enterprise at an office that picked me up at the hotel and took me to the car rental office. I saved hundreds during a 10 day rental.

PGC323,

I called Hertz a couple of days ago and they said it's not going to be a problem to do it and no extra fees. The hardest part was finding a place that was open on a Sunday early afternoon, since I'll be arriving at Sky Harbor from JFK at 11:20 Am. The difference from getting the car offsite compared to at the airport for a Sunday afternoon to Friday night is about $220. I'll be staying in Mesa at hotel with no shuttle to the airport.

As much as I dislike Las Vegas, it is a much better hub for a family to fly into and rent a car and hotel room. It is much better for those going to the Grand Canyon.

Well that's good to know. I was dealing with Enterprise at the time.

I'm flying into Vegas next week for the same reason. Not with my family, but less expensive rentals at the airport, less expensive hotels, less expensive (but nice) meals, etc., etc. I'll do a 5-6 hour road trip to the Phoenix area for business later in the week.

good for you, let your wallet talk, the drive has never been easier with the new bridge (I've heard). Good luck with your business in Phoenix.
