Can I claim all of 2009 property tax on my 2009 return if I paid half of the taxes in 2009 and the other half by the 2010 deadline?

I am not an accountant, so my advice is to ask an accountant.

However, my laypersons opinion is that generally one can only deduct the expenses that are actually paid in the calendar year. If you paid the second half of 2008 taxes in 2009, then you would deduct that plus the first half 2009 taxes that you have paid.
