Recently, I attended a CHANGES event through Upper St. Clair High school. It was quite an eventful experience. CHANGES is a school-wide program that has students from school districts come together and experience a day in the life of other students. We would all be paired up with other high school students and, through ice breaker activities, we'd talk about our lives. However, when the speaker was asking the student's how they perceived kids from USC, a person from an inner city school yelled, "They all rich!". My question is, "Although Upper St. Clair is a moderately affluent community, is it perceived as rich and snooty from other parts of Pittsburgh?" And... do you have any experiences to show why you'd think that?

I think that's how it's perceived and from the people that I've met from there it is correct. I even met one girl that grew up in section 8 housing in USC. Yeah, she was a snooty little ##### too.

It wasn't an apt complex. I believe her family had some sort of Section 8 voucher or something that the landlord accepted. She didn't live in the projects, but the point was that she wasn't rich by any means...yet still had an attitude as if she was better than everyone else. I'm sure not everyone is like that, but all the people from USC that i've met were. Also, the females from USC that i've met were all very sexually promiscuous. Again, not saying they all are like that, but a LARGE portion USC girls get around!

Yea but only 3% of kids in the district have reduced priced lunches. Which means that there are hardly any people living off of a section 8 voucher. And actually, girls from Peters and Bethel are a lot worse.

While most of the people from USC come from affluent backgrounds, some people that I've met from USC didn't act at all snooty, but maybe it's just the personality of those particular people. You'll find it surprising that some of those people were even pretty down-to-earth despite their backgrounds and if you were friends with them, you'd be lucky enough to chill and party at their places.

That's because the person from the inner city school didn't have the statistics at their fingertips, and thus was unable to eloquently articulate the thought: "Only 3% of kids in the district have reduced priced lunches! Which means that there are hardly any people living off of a section 8 voucher! Where I come from, it therefore seems, they all rich!"

I can understand how it would look that way.

At the same time, rich doesn't have to equal snooty, but the snooty rich people give the non-snooty rich people a bad name. (Just like any other stereotype.)

The most charming and lovely high school children I have met during my time in Pittsburgh have all been from USC. I have never gotten a snooty vibe.
