It's a shame. I now have the technology to put waay more snow in a parking spot than ever came out of it, whether somebody else has since parked in it or not, but I live in the damn suburbs so I don't have anybody to compete with for those spots. <sigh>

The street is a stupid place to put a chair. Period. If I had a 4wD truck or suv that sat up high enough, I would drive around at night and throw them in the middle of the street and drive over them.

Just to be a PITA.

Your car is on the street covered in 4 feet of snow, you spend hours clearing it, you leave and come back only to find your lousy, lazy, stinkin' next door neighbor in your spot, how would you feel?

How would I feel? I'd find another spot to park my car and be on with my life. I guess this must be a subject that is hard to understand. Shoveling snow is a fact of life in an area that gets snow.

I parked on the street for a number of years. 8 to be exact. In a city that gets a lot more snow.

That's the point, there is NO OTHER SPOT, unless I shovel out another one.

Not a problem now, I live in the Great White North 'burbs, the peasants clear my driveway.

You might have to drive a few feet or even down the block, but there is always a spot.

I'd be interested in hearing somebody (from the anti-chair side of the aisle), make the case that it is in any way honest or honorable to park in a spot that one of your neighbors has shovelled out, without offering them some form of compensation. I mean, if we take it as a given that all spots are created equal, (equally snow filled, that is), why is it ok to take a spot that somebody else has labored to clear? Shouldn't every individual that wants a spot be equally obligated to labor to clear one?

I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a spot I didn't clear, but I wouldn't be in retaliation mode if someone took mine.

Reality is, as long as I own a car, I'm having a driveway at least, or some similar sort of off-street spot for the car, if not a garage. Even for a rental, I'm not doing street parking. I don't mind shoveling my driveway; I do it all the time. But then it's most assuredly MY spot.

I have a solution for all the bickering: people pay for their parking spots. It'll shut everybody up.
