Trinity Cathedral opts to be solely Episcopal

The Trinity Cathedral on 6th Ave. in town is now solely Episcopal Church property, having previously been under the control of both the Episcopal and Anglican Churches after a vote this month.

I wonder whether or not they'll be able to maintain it alone for long, or if a modern H.C. Frick will come around to redevelop the site?

In the 1st decade of the 20th Century, Frick bought the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, St. Paul's Cathedral and 3rd Presbyterian Church and razed all 3 Grant St. edifices to build the Frick Bldg., Union Trust Bldg. and William Penn Hotel.

Is there a modern Frick-like developer looking at the Sixth Avenue lot for a new project?

There was a major schism among the Episcopalians, the Pittsburgh diocese as a whole split for the Anglican Church- but some parishes including Trinity in town decided to stay in the Episcopal Church.

Here's the list of Episcopal parishes in Pittsburgh, ones that are not listed have split.

St. Peter's wasn't razed, it was disassembled, and moved to Oakland, where it was reassembled at the corner of Forbes and Craft Avenues, and stood there until it was razed in the 1990's. I'm pretty sure Trinity has been "landmarked", and there would be a real ****storm if anyone tried to have it razed, plus the fact that you'd need to raze First Presby to have enough land to do anything with, and that will NEVER happen.

Actually I did know about the reassembly of St. Peter's. It must have been quite a job, but then Mr. Frick had to do it to make the deal and that was before the city would exercise eminent domain for a private project like the Frick Building.

But the real question is what happens if the Episcopalians are unable to keep their cathedral up with so many of the resources splitting to the Anglicans? You don't think they'd be interested in getting rid of the white elephant to someone with grand plans? The Trinity lot isn't that small.

I just can't see it happening. That's one of the blocks downtown that's virtually untouchable.
