I've been casually looking at new furniture for a few months. Now I'm down to the crunch and I want furniture yesterday.

I've been all through the northern and western suburbs.

Are there any furniture stores in the southern and eastern suburbs worth the drive?

What about surrounding counties? I'm willing to go anywhere that delivers.

What kind of furniture? Higher end, contemporary? Traditional? Don't underestimate what you can get at Macy's if they are having a sale. We purchased a couch there on one of their wild sales and it is great. Good quality and the price was hard to beat. If you like contemporary, we like Pelora and Pelora Leather. Sometimes they have a warehouse sale in Lawrenceville and you can pick up some great buys, but some of it might have a little defect. If you want cheaper, but very stylish Ikea has some great designs. They get an A from me for style, but it is cheaper.

Thanks!

I tend to lean towards contemporary, but transitional can work too. I liked a few styles at Macy's, but they were all white. As a dog family (leather is a must), I'm a bit worried about buying such a light colored sofa.

That's my biggest problem: I'm attracted to comtemporary designs but they are commonly limited to white for black. Black is just too dark for this particular room.

I've never been to Pelora. I'll check it out. A warehouse sale would be awesome because I'd like to stay mid-range with this particular piece of furniture, but I'll pay significantly more if I must.

I'm open to any other suggestions since I plan to make a weekend of it!

Go to Pelora Leather in the Strip. There is a room upstairs that has some sale stuff as well. Brown is common there, not just black and white. I don't care for black or white either. Also, Pelora over in the South Side is a place to check out. Don't know when that warehouse sale is, but it might have been in Jan or Feb. You can ask.

If you want over the top contemporary check out Jerry Kitman in Millvale. It is worth a look, but I don't know about sales. Go there and check out the furniture and walk across the street to the French Bakery for a little treat. Lots of fun!

I'll definitely check out Jerry Kitman on the way to Pelora in the Strip. I've passed that store in Millvale a zillion times and it never occurred to me that anyone ever shopped there. I assumed it was a dying business. Then again, it is usually closed when I'm in the area. I'm not into ultra contemporary, but it's worth a look since I'll be nearby.

It always looks closed. Just that place's style. Never been to a store like it. If I was going to travel and wanted a bit more contemporary or transitional, I would go to Contemporary Furniture Showcase in Youngstown OH. Overall they are a bit cheaper than our area UNLESS you get something on sale here. Ohio is cheaper because they have a better tax situation than our region.

We did drive to Sheeley's a few years ago. We didn't think the prices were that great (then again all furniture is pretty expensive) but they did offer free delivery if you lived in Pittsburgh.

I was thinking of driving to Youngstown. Do those stores have a wider selection than the Pittsburgh area stores?

I did stop at Jerry Kitman and Pelora's warehouse yesterday.

Kitman was way too modern for me, but I think it's fantastic that Millvale has a store like that. Who would have guessed Millvale was the destination for high end furniture? It's hillarious that it always looks closed even when it's open!

Pelora's warehouse only had a few items and they weren't right for my space (too big, wrong color, etc.) The prices were amazing for the quality though. If I can't find what I'm looking for, I'll definitely spend more and order from Pelora's Leather.
