The great thing about a city with so many hills and rivers is there is an almost endless potential for really great views. What surprises me when I visit is how many great views are in unexpected places. One time I remember I stopped at a drugstore, and as I was going in the front door I looked down the sidewalk and was surprised to see what a killer view the front stoop of this very ordinary store had.

What about you guys? What are some of your favorite unexpected places that have fabulous views?

Not sure how a street named "Pittview" could have an unexpected view.

I love driving through the Hill District on Webster Avenue. As you go up and down the slight hills and get closer to the City, the view of the Downtown continues to change. Here's a shot from Streetview: Webster Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA - Google Maps.

I also like the view from West Park: http://goo.gl/maps/jTdlu.

The top of Brushton Ave (Brushton Hill) Amazing view of the entire east end!

The the backyards of the homes on Calistoga and Parkhill Drive in East Hills. You can see the entire east end and if you really know the city, you can see the strip of lights that is actually grandview ave in mt washinton. This view is only visible once the trees loose their foliage though.....

The East Liberty Target has a killer view of the Cathedral of Learning and the surrounding area..

Greenfield has great views of downtown if you are at the top of the hill looking the right way.

Mount Washington . . . looking the OTHER way. Some great views of up and down Virginia Avenue (for example) from different places.

Bigelow St. between Lydia St. and Parade St. has a great view of downtown, obscured only slightly by power lines. Farther east on Bigelow are some great views of Oakland. There's also a great view from Greenfield Ave. of the Cathedral of Learning between two hills obscuring everything else with the bridges carrying the Parkway East and Boulevard of the Allies in front.

The Giant Eagle shopping center in Kennedy Township has a neat view of the city skyline from a distance.
