It was awesome. We could go almost anywhere with a direct flight, except out of the way places nobody gets to with direct flights.

I'll have to do some research. If I can prove real estate tanked out as low as possible and is now starting to rise, he might be game.
The trouble is real estate will always be kind of volatile and it's pretty impossible to predict what its value in the future would be. I can't blame your husband for being cautious.

My husband thanks me every day for opening up his eyes to traveling and seeing the world and not being stuck in one county for the rest of his life. I just dont think thats healthy to not have any desire to see the world...or even the next county over
Glad to hear that your life in Charlotte has worked out well! I grew up in Beaver County and knew many people like your husband's family. Where in Beaver County was he from?

I agree. It's understandable we'd be cautious since we live in an extremely stable real estate market. We're used to stable. I certainly don't want to end up being one of those people we read about whose house ends up worth less than their mortgage. It's just another darn good reason to stay in Pittsburgh since that never happened here, not even after the collapse of the steel industry.

I grew up in Aliquippa, right on the border of Hopewell Township and graduated from Aliquippa high school. I take it that you are much younger than I though, as I graduated from high school in 1966, and left the area in 1974, when I married. I was always open to living in other places, and I ended up in the San Fernando Valley area of L.A. where my husband's parents lived. It seems like more people are moving to North Carolina now, which wasn't the case in the 70's. It seemed like most who left the area moved to FL, CA, AZ, or Las Vegas.

Well, we did leave 10 years ago for what we thought was greener pastures......now we want to come "home"...whatever downfalls that Pittsburgh has....it is home......and believe me when I say there is a lot of good things, good people, beautiful places and advantages to be in Pittsburgh....even if sometimes you just cannot see them!!!!!!!!!! Truth be known, EVERY place has its downfalls and even though we live 3 blocks from the beach.........we crave to be back home.......the south has its advantages and possibly if we moved to a larger city, we would have liked it a bit more or if we were retired loved it better as well......so anyway..........just wanted all to know that the grass isn't ALWAYS greener...........

When I visited Aliquippa in 2010, I noticed that my old childhood home was for sale and the price was three times what we sold it for in 1982, which was right around the time the steel industry collapsed. So prices are going up in the area. The taxes in Aliquippa though, are very high considering the prices of the homes. At the time, my sister and I just wanted to sell the house, and it seemed like we practically gave it away.

So true! I have felt this way at times too. You don't know what you miss until you leave. It's doubtful that I'll ever return to Pgh. though as we are just too settled out here. I would rather not live in a larger city, and I do now so I feel the opposite of you on that score.

The problem with the small towns is you are never accepted by the locals. We ran into that when we were looking at small towns in Pennsylvania. Move to a small town on the South and the problem will be magnified a billion times.
