I know people (rightfully) hated the North Shore connector project but this might be an argument for further extending the T. Should be easier than moving a highway.

That's the steam plant that heats and cools some of the buildings on the North Side, including Allegheny Center, AGH and PNC Park. Its valuable property, because it provides a pretty valuable service.

It may be ugly, but you can't get rid of it- its an essential piece of infrastructure. And due to the nature of steam heating, it has to be in proximity to the facilities being heated- it wouldn't be effective if it was moved out to Cranberry.

I honestly think that the steam plant is an attractive building.

I thought I was the only person who felt that way. I've always rather liked that plant, it's interesting to look at it. It feels so authentic, so "Pittsburghian". The sort of building that would be fun to make a model of.

There is one just like it in Philly, just off of the University City exit on 76. It's like four times larger and more colorful -- very cool looking.

Do they sell model making kits for it? I'm serious that it would be a fun thing to put together.

Can't find an image or link right now but I believe there was once a beautiful railroad station where that hideous post office and strange steam plant now sit.

It was the Ft. Wayne Station, razed in 1950's
