July 1988 was brutal. And there was the classic inversion. But 103F was tied twice before back to 1870:

Quote:
three days in Pittsburgh's recorded history have topped out at 103 degrees. That temperature was recorded in July of 1881, August of 1918, and on July 16, 1988. That last date was at the end of the longest heat wave in history: a 13-day sweat-a-thon in which the high was never lower than 90 degrees. The closest Pittsburgh has ever come to that was all the way back in 1878...

Me too.....only in my dream there would be no humidity and no days above 80. Throw in a little rain to keep things growing and I would be happy.

I know that people say dry heat isn't as bad. To me though it's just a little less bad than 95 humid degrees.

It was 94 degrees today. Grrrrrr. Why don't we have SPRING around here? I was up in Erie today, and everything STILL wasn't in bloom in mid-May. What gives?

Living in a dry climate, I agree! Though 90 F and 6% (or so) humidity isn't bad. We get some days where it gets hot early, say 92 degrees by 2 PM and then clouds over. Those days are quite bearable. Then there are the cloudless days where it just gets hotter and hotter, sometimes into the high 90s, occasionally 100+.
Those days are awful!

I agree completely. Most of these people who say it's so nice outside do when they are inside all day as well.

I have 2 vivid memories of 1988. One was that my dad was dying of lung cancer that summer, and of how much he suffered in that heat. The other was in May of that year, when the heat really settled in. I was working in Fairfax County, Va., and a man came into my store. he was sweating profusely, and he said, "man, I'm from Africa, and this heat is too much for me". Needless to say, we had a very good laugh about that.

I usually don't like the hot that much, but I thought it felt pretty good out there today. Went out hiking for about 3-4 hours.

Now the smell after I got home wasn't too great, haha.

Same here! I was off and ran around the entire Presque Isle Peninsula in Erie. At least in my case I had the luxury of bringing a towel, deodorant, cologne, and a change of clothes with me, though.
