as 2014 comes to a close, gangsta culture is alive and well in east liberty

3 Injured In East Liberty Shooting

3 Injured In East Liberty Shooting « CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police say three people were injured in a shooting in East Liberty early Saturday morning. Police and EMS were on the scene at Baum Boulevard and South Aiken around 3:15 a.m. Police say three people in a car were shot from another car passing by. The car carrying the three victims then crashed into a pole, causing it to “dangle over the roadway.”

it's amazing that the city seems to be powerless when it comes to stopping the epidemic of violence in east liberty - check some of the older east liberty threads on city-data for a long list of violent incidents this year

why is the city allowing the neighborhood to turn into a drive-by shooting gallery at night?
isn't the plan to transform the neighborhood into a safe and appealing yuppie shopping and living destination?

the 15 million dollar transit center and new hotels and apartment buildings,
isn't that all money being invested to make the neighborhood more appealing? if that is the case
then wouldn't it make sense to spend some more money on security to keep the streets safe at night
to insure the appeal lasts 24 hours a day?

what happens if the next drive-by shooting location is the intersection of penn and highland?
what happens if god forbid a yuppie gets caught in the crossfire?

the city is thinking about one thing - bending over for business.
the safety of residents has no profit value so it gets overlooked and as a result people get shot
and long term business plans for the area eventually get ruined

Calling the corner of Baum & S. Aiken part of East Liberty is a bit of a stretch.

Baum at S. Aiken is in Bloomfield, regardless of what KDKA thinks.

Post Gazette says Bloomfield; WPXI says Bloomfield, though I swear it said Shadyside earlier; KDKA is the only one saying East Liberty.

Surprised no one says Friendship.

It is Bloomfield or maybe even Shadyside before it is East Liberty.

Maybe we should just say East End? One thing for sure, there is still plenty of crime in certain pockets. Has been that way for one heck of a long time and I doubt it will end in the next several decades.

That's probably why CFP linked to the KDKA story...

Or maybe he just saw it on KDKA and assumed it was in fact East Liberty. Does it really matter? We are talking about a few blocks, not miles. It is funny how people are trying to change the subject to the exact location instead of acknowledging the shooting, which isn't rare by any stretch.

The intersection is Shadyside and not East Liberty or Bloomfield.

It seems there aren't enough police out in this area of town.
