Redevelopment project of former Saks store in Downtown Pittsburgh to start soon | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

I wonder if it will be apartments or condos. Seems apartments are the hotter item these days.

from the article:
"Smithfield Oliver is still trying to decide whether to do condos or apartments in the residential phase. It had been leaning toward condos but is uncertain if that is the way to go at this point.

"We haven't made a clear decision yet. Our goal is to deliver a residential component to the market in a timely fashion and apartments allow us to deliver to the market more quickly, although we do feel there is a demand for condos at this point," he said."

Way to be vague!

I just don't understand why there are so many people who want to pay top dollar to live in town.

It seemed like this project was delayed a bit longer than anticipated. However, if this delay was to get the garage and apts/condos built in one fell swoop rather than waiting a few years after the the garage portion opens, this is a delay worth waiting for.
Here's a rendering some may have seen. It may have changed a little since this is from late 2014.http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...P66GNYjFDSS1UA

Because the city has been making the top lists for a while now and they just don't know any better.

I think the better question is when will downtown finally realize it would be to their benefit to give these people more to do downtown?

The suburbs aren't for everyone. Isn't it nice to have a choice?

I'll can assume that you haven't been downtown lately. There are many options in downtown and the immediate area. This summer has been amazing for downtown night life.

What more do you want? There is plenty already there.

This one could be as few as 50 units, so it's not really so many.

Downtown is one supermarket away from being a viable residential neighborhood.
