Hard to believe that the once daily flight to Seattle on Alaska Air didn’t move the needle.

Logistically, they'd want to build close to a large military depot and distribution hub. In the event of national emergency, companies like Wal Mart and Amazon would be nationalized to move materials, goods and relief supplies for the government. So they'd want the military close by to proved security and aid in moving them. Places like Harrisburg or Gettysburg would be close to army bases. This is already in place, the huge warehouses are going in the same areas and have been for a while.

So after all has been said and done, it looks like Amazon's need for strong mass transit was important after all, just like they said.

Pittsburgh: "But we are building bus rapid transit"

Amazon: "LOL ok."

Pittsburgh: "But it's better than dedicated rail transit"

Amazon: "LOL. Keep telling yourselves that. But don't worry, you can get to Steelers games faster via the Rooney influenced T extension!"

Nashville got 5k jobs and needs a lot of improvement in it's transit.

Amazon is going to areas they already had a strong presence and with established businesses they’re looking to grow. Boston, Atlanta and other areas with greater mass transit than Pittsburgh got shut out too. Interestingly, Nashville is getting greater investment from Amazon as well.

Many of the cities will receive some sort of Amazon investment, but Amazon knows that only certain locations can handles ten of thousands of new residents in a short period of time. When the people in Nashville nixed the transit plan, their chance at the HQ went out the window, if they were ever really in the running.

I doubt most cities were really in the running, but Amazon got what it wanted, free data on development. It’s good to be the king...

no... more like amazon's need to be close to bezo's homes

"Amazon is now talking about having three headquarters, Seattle, Crystal City and Long Island City. The Bezos's also own three homes, and the average distance from those three homes to a headquarters is 6.4 miles. "This was never a contest,"

Just in: Peduto says that city and county WILL release Amazon bid, now that Amazon headed elsewhere. Perhaps as soon as Thursday

This should be interesting.

but then there was no way we could have EVER been competitive, right? with the extensive, already existing transit systems in the NYC and DC metropolitan areas. NYC's is amazing for its level of service, to the best of my knowledge.
