I apologize in advance if the answer to this is obvious or has been answered before, but does anyone know if Pittsburgh Public Schools still publishes a list of school assignment by street? The district used to make available a list of all street addresses that fed into each school. All I see on the PPS website now is the page where you can look up school assignment based on one, specific street address (Discover PPS). I'm basically looking for which street I'd have to live on to feed into certain neighborhood schools within PPS.

Thank you!

To the best of my knowledge, the city hasn't produced public feeder maps in at least five years. I remember the old maps from memory however, and I believe they are still largely accurate. What are you looking for, somewhere in the Colfax feeder zone?

I know Colfax is still in very high demand, but from a North side perspective I am struck by how many parents move their kids around in PPS -- given that a large percent of kids go into one of the magnet schools this doesn't seem to be terribly hard to do, but maybe things are different over in the East End? Still our own sense of urgency about being in one neighborhood or another went way down once we realized how many cool options PPS has within the magnet system.

I created this map in January 2017 by running a list of every address in the city through the PPS site and saving the results to a database. I then created a map in GIS.

Thank you for the replies and the map! I'm not looking specifically to be in Colfax. I live just outside PPS and want to be informed about feeder patterns for different schools before I consider moving into the city.

This is impressive. This is something that I normally only see on a tv show.

I have zero computer skills and I don't even know what to call what you did? Are you a computer programmer?

Thanks! I'm an engineer that doesn't do much programming professionally, but I have basic/intermediate programming experience through HS, undergrad, and grad school.

I knew it theoretically was possible to retrieve the data needed to create the map, so I did a little googling to set-up a program. It was an opportunity to learn something new while creating something useful for myself and others (until it becomes outdated).

Not sure how PPS would feel about someone creating this map, so I haven't gone into specifics about how it was made. It was compiled from information available at discoverpps.org and the list of city addresses at pittsburghpa.gov/dcp/gis/.

Wow, nice work. Is Obama a magnet, since it isn't on there?

Yes, I believe if you attend one of the language magnets (Liberty, Linden, Fulton, Phillips) for K-5, you automatically get a spot at Obama for 6-12. The rest of the spots are given in the magnet lottery for the International Baccalaureate program.

I think Obama is a magnet. No address in the city returned Obama as a school assignment.
