At least some parents, a teacher, and the President of the Pittsburgh federation of teachers are speaking up. Recognizing and admitting there’s a problem is the first step in fixing it.

“The school board is not providing additional personnel in the schools to help,” said Nina Esposito-Visgitis, president of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers. “We need bodies in the schools, boots on the ground.”

Hopefully if more police are assigned they’ll be allowed to properly do their job.

The School Board is failing in other ways.

The issue of disciplining students has members of the board overseeing Pittsburgh Public Schools divided as principals are pushing for more order in the classroom.

In June, the school board voted to limit certain disciplinary measures for repeat misbehaviors. However, some principals are now pushing back against that policy, telling Channel 11 something has to be done for the safety of students and to keep order within schools. They want disciplinary measures to be reinstated.

So again.. Board votes to implement PROGRESSIVE policies in the summer to reduce disciplinary measures to fight RACISM. Things start to get out of hand at beginning of school year, principals ask for reinstatement of previous disciplinary measures in order to PROTECT THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS. Board declines to do so.
Less than 2 months later (keeping in mind the time the zoo was closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years holidays) and what do we have? Kids being shot at school, getting their heads stomped, school staff being beaten up...

The situation is redonkulous. Stevie Wonder could see the cause & effect and see through the BS.

Has the carjacking trend happened yet in Pittsburgh? It's really bad in Philly. Like Venezuela level bad.

Police statistics show between 2010-2019, there was an average of 230 carjackings each year in the city. The number jumped to 409 in 2020 and topped off with 757 in 2021.

So far this year, there have been over 100 carjackings and we’re still in the month of January.

Who is the moderator of the Pittsburgh board? I know reading some other threads of other states and cities they are moderated much better. Some posters try to take a thread off the rails with politics, racial profiling and it automatically squashed. Why is this board not moderated? Is it because those moderating are the same ones trolling this board?
