who has this kind of money other than a small handful of people in the city

$4.4 million East End property retains century-old charm, grandeur

https://triblive.com/lifestyles/more...harm-grandeur/

"The 14,000-square-foot residence in Pittsburgh’s East End known as the Kelly House can comfortably accommodate a party of 100 guests or more.

Despite its size, it also has a cozy feel that makes it perfect for family gatherings.

Set on a 1.4-acre lot at 1145 Beechwood Blvd., the grand brick home dating to 1905 is on the market for $4.4 million."

This is the Priciest Mansion For Sale in the East End

https://www.pittsburghmagazine.com/t...-the-east-end/

"In 1996, while expecting their eighth child, Sue and Ron Petnuch bought a historic mansion at 1145 Beechwood Boulevard in Point Breeze. They later had another child, making them a family of 11.

While that’s a large brood, their home, built in 1905, gave them plenty of room.

Sitting on 1.4 acres, the 14,302 square foot home has nine bedrooms, seven full baths and two partial baths. The home also features a family room, dining room, living room, billiard room and even an elevator. "

'Unique' mansion in Pittsburgh's East End listed for $4.9 million

https://triblive.com/local/pittsburg...r-4-9-million/

"A new residential listing in Pittsburgh’s East End has room to roam.

Known as the Kelly House, the Point Breeze residence at 1145 Beechwood Blvd. offers more than 14,000 square feet of living space. A stately brick home with Colonial Revival elements, it sits on 1.4 mature acres and features nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

The asking price is $4.9 million. That makes it the priciest residential listing in the East End, according to listing agent Nettie Mercer of Howard Hanna."

If you’re asking this question, then your not in the circle that has that kind of money Many million dollar sales in this area, the same type of people who go to the Ross Park mall and buy 3,000 + dollar designer shoes. Glad there are some here or we would just be looking at piece of carp modern housing for us poor folk

The 2 million dollar home on grand ave is stunning. Just damn.

Why should there be more than a small handful of people that can afford the most expensive house for sale in the city? What would it cost to build that house today?

its no different than looking at more expensive cities and asking who can afford the 10,15,20+M dollar homes. How about the new 250M condo pent house for sale over looking Central Park at like 1200' above the street. There are probably only a handful of people in the country that could afford that.

By all standards, Pittsburgh housing is still cheap. Our most expensive homes are single digit Millions. A lot of metros that is not the case at all. like it or not, a million dollars is just not that much money any longer. And in another 1-2 decades, it will it be dramatically less than today.

Its indefinitely closed and that pretty much means permanent as far as the city goes. Crazy how quickly nature reclaims things.

a little sleuthing and you quickly figure out the lava trust that paid a record-breaking price for a mansion in fox chapel

is the same lava trust connected to doulingo founder luis von ahn's record-breaking chelsea townhouse purchase

Tech entrepreneur behind record-breaking $22.5M Chelsea townhouse sale

https://therealdeal.com/new-york/202...ownhouse-sale/

so local tech guru/multi-millionaire pays record amount for fox chapel mansion is a real thing, and the post-gazette and trib aren't covering it

seems odd - isn't this a sign of the tremendous strength of our local economy

maybe good news doesn't sell

I know specifically "promoting" real estate listings is typically prohibited on this forum; however, I know PghYinzer has indicated before he is trying to buy a home in/near Manchester but has been unsuccessful because everything either is above his price range or flies off the market.

These two new listings might help PghYinzer specifically (assuming he still participates on this forum):

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1...1375521_zpid/?

^ This one is in California-Kirkbride---not Manchester---but it is close to Manchester, has historic appeal, has great skyline views, seems to be move-in ready, and is reasonably-priced.

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1...11611606_zpid/

^ This one has an open house tomorrow, is sub-$300,000, and is in the desirable part of Manchester. It is move-in ready. It will probably go quickly.

Yes those are both really nice and surprisingly affordable. By Monday they'll both be sold I'm certain.

Interestingly enough the Sunday Street one is next-door to another recent sale that went viral and ended up selling for over asking price. I'm wondering if the owner of this property on Sunday thought "Wow. Maybe now is the time to cash in!" I pick up litter along California Avenue near this area and think it is really a hidden gem. Those dead-end streets off California in California-Kirkbride are very quiet yet very conveniently-located. It feels safer here than Marshall-Shadeland and is also cheaper than Manchester---by a wide margin.
