We will be moving to Pittsburgh this year and are looking to rent an old house and not break the bank.We have mainly looked outside city limits because of what I've read about city schools but Polish Hill looks like a cool older neighborhood. Is it safe and equally important how are the schools?

The Polish Hill is indeed a cool little area, but you will have to send your kids to the City Schools, not so cool.

And at the risk of YAC pulling this post, don't ever dress up like a pirogi, because the Polish Babushka Ladies will chase you with knives. True story. Just go to PNC Park for verification.

Polish Hill is a neat little enclave that kind of resembles an old European village. Old-timers still ive there in well-kept houses, some vacant houses, and some young families moving in and rehabbing houses. I know one family that bought and rehabbed an old car repair shop and it became their home. Very neat garage doors that openn up to the street from their family room.

These families send their kids to city schools and they're doing fine. I think the bad rap is a fallacy.

Bellevue or West View might work.

If you love beer you have to go to Gooski's in Polish Hill. It's a great neighborhood bar with awesome beer selections
