It’s been 30 years.

Because $$$, and not everyone considers him a manchild.

Sigh. Sirius. Got six months free when I bought my new car four years ago, I thought the whole idea was we didn’t have ads. I might have not been getting tax attorney and car commercials, but I was getting a lot of Sirius XM ads. I went to the big band station — that was the only one that wasn’t running them because of course people listening to that are so old they’re not gonna buy anything anyway. We gave it a good shot, and neither one of us liked it. But frankly podcasts rock. Before I do a road trip, I have a great time downloading trip stuff… but I enjoy driving here, too. I’m really loving IPhone Focus — I can drive in peace.

I actually don’t mind Pittsburgh radio. One of the most fascinating things about moving from the fourth largest market in the country to about the 24th largest, is just how bad radio was in the 4th largest market. I’m talking gawd-awful. The one and only news radio is complete and total glitch city. And it is heavily commercialed. That’s actually a huge problem in the bay area. Two minutes of programming, five minutes of commercials. The stations are all owned by larger conglomerates, so there’s no local programming. It’s the freaking bay area — there should be local programming.

So I still kind of have an outsider‘s perspective here, and so far I’m enjoying the radio when I’m driving around in my car. I no longer listen to the radio to go to sleep, that’s what podcasts are for — and I’ve discovered a lot of old time radio on podcasts so that’s fun.

Granted, I am older, and my taste in things is almost always skewed to kitsch. So right now I’m liking the Pickle. 92.1. WDVE is on my keypad, but it’s not my style.

I’ve had SiriusXM for decades. Most all music stations are commercial free. There’s very few sponsored channels that run ads.

Mostly only listen to Pittsburgh sports talk stations as the commercials/ads are overwhelming on public radio.

The $10 a month I send to Spotify is well worth it IMO. You can listen to it in your home or vehicle and through the soundbar of your tv, if you have one. You choose the music, not someone else. At the $10 level it`s commercial free.
