Just curious, Millvale is it's own city/town...or a Pittsburgh neighborhood?

Technically, Millvale is not part of Pittsburgh.

It has its own government, and it's part of a suburban school district.

However, it is right across the river from the city and has a city neighborhood feel.

Mailing address could be either Millvale, PA or Pittsburgh, PA.

Millvale's zip code is a Pittsburgh zip code, but people will use Millvale, PA or Pittsburgh, PA for Millvale mailing addresses.

Zip codes and the city part of a mailing address mean nothing in Pennsylvania other than a way to deliver mail.

Here. Look at Millvale Borough's website.

Welcome to Millvale PA

Notice the mailing address on the bottom left side of the screen uses Pittsburgh, PA.

However, mail will be delivered if you put Millvale, PA with the same zip code.

It is its own town. But, it is very close to the city.

Yes, but the PO doesn't like it when you do that. Kind of like my brother that puts Upper St. Clair on his return address instead of Pgh. Or those in Nevillewood that won't use Presto. Or my snobby neighbors that use Towne of McCandless instead of Gibsonia.

of the river towns...which others are their own towns - everything further out of Millvale, I'll assume...anything between the city and Millvale going closer to the city? Or is Milvalle the first 'town' going out in that direction?

Anything on the north side of the river, up river from Millvale (away from downtown) is not part of the City.

The span between Millvale and Troy Hill are part of Reserve Township.

Reserve is not part of the city. It has it's own government and it's part of the same school system as Millvale.

Compare the city neighborhood map with the county township maps:

Reserve doesn't quite reach the river, but that is fairly clear on the map.

It's funny how the north townships are rectangular. Because none of the roads go through at that angle, you'd never really know it.
