IF BP were to go under (reorganize that operation as a new entity), and move to other shores, do you not think other countries would move in to fill the void? What if it were China who had had this accident.
How far do you think Obama would get in pressuring China?
We're lucky that, if this had to happen, it was BP. Yes, they were forced by environmentalists to move into deep water. It was approved by the government. The blowout preventer was approved by the government. BP "met code". In the process, they should have known better than to take some of the risks they did. However, that's what the fed inspectors were supposed to oversee and prevent. They did not do their job and we know there is blame on all sides. BP is not the only guilty party here.
Obama should take the contributions that BP made to his campaign and put them into the fund. Now THAT would make for good publicity for him (since he's so concerned with his own image being tainted by political fallout from anything he does or doesn't do). He should also put the oil industry windfall profits taxes that the government collected into the escrow fund.
I do think that it was a shakedown. Didn't the government originally agree to a $75m cap on expenses?

Of course this is all irrelevant in regards to the point of the thread, which as usual you are trying to avoid like the plague. The point is that faced with one of the worst ecological disasters in the history of this great country, the GOP Representative steps up to be BP's biggest unapologetic bootlick. Just as you are stepping up to do damage control by changing the subject.
None of course, and BP was under no obligation to oblige, yet they did, why do you suppose that is?
Because they understand the difference between a legal obligation, which they DO NOT have to pay for, and a moral one.. And since they were villiafied for making the right decision, over the legal one, yes, they indeed should be apologized to..

BP needs to be apologized to... They are under NO legal requirement to send $20B to Obama.. NONE.. If you can answer the question I've asked here before than I'll admit you are right, but if you cant, than indeed an apologize is called for.

Demand? They talked about it, and both parties came to an agreement. I don't think they were legally obligated to do it, but they agreed to it anyway. It is a matter of negitiation and persuation. I'll bet BP is wondering what the congressman is apologizing for.
