"The mounting evidence clearly demonstrates that this tragedy was preventable and the direct result of BP's reckless decisions and actions," Anadarko Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Hackett said in a statement.

"Frankly, we are shocked by the publicly available information that has been disclosed in recent investigations and during this week's testimony that, among other things, indicates BP operated unsafely and failed to monitor and react to several critical warning signs during the drilling of the Macondo well," Hackett said.

To say nothing of creating a little favorable publicity for one's own company!

More amazing is Republicans seem to be aligning themselves with BP in their defense. Republicans Joe Barton and Michele Bachmann defend BP on oil spill catastrophe ‘slush fund'. Seems a risky strategy in an election year when a large majority of Americans are disgusted with the worst man-made ecologic disaster in US history. At least for now very few are still screaming "drill baby drill".

Barton was criticizing the way in which it was done not the compensation itself.

Considering the amount of ignorance from the american public, who actually believe this is a defense of BP, it is indeed a risky strategy..

Actually Barton was criticizing the fact that BP was being held financially responsible.
"Barton’s remarks came in the opening statements of Thursdays hearings by the House Energy Committee. He said, “I am ashamed of what happened in the White House yesterday” because a ‘private corporation was subjected to what amounts to a 20 billion dollar shake down.”
With or without an appology, the underlying message is clear. These Republicans do not believe that corporations should be held accountable for their actions.

Oddly enough 90% of Americans had their taxes CUT. But why let the facts interfere with your hating Obama?
"After all, neutral economists insist that, under the Obama administration, the overwhelming likelihood is that your tax burden has gone down, not up. Even conservative economic analysts acknowledge that there really is no basis for middle- and working-class Americans to believe that they're suddenly paying more."
""The only tax I think that has been put in place so far is an increase in the federal cigarette tax. I can't think of another Obama tax that has gone in place so far," said Chris Edwards, Director of Tax Policy Studies at the conservative Cato Institute." is right!

Thats because up until recently, Obama has been calling these things like fees, mandates, etc.. It wasnt till recently that Obama HIMSELF is now calling these a tax hike.. Maybe I'll email the list to the Cato Institute..
