First rig sails away over deep-water drilling ban | Business | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

Quote:
WASHINGTON — Diamond Offshore announced Friday that its Ocean Endeavor drilling rig will leave the Gulf of Mexico and move to Egyptian waters immediately — making it the first to abandon the United States in the wake of the BP oil spill and a ban on deep-water drilling.

And the Ocean Endeavor's exodus probably won't be the last, according to oil industry officials and Gulf Coast leaders who warn that other companies eager to find work for the now-idled rigs are considering moving them outside the U.S.
So...obama is implementing his war on Oil by fiat, pretending that the ill-conceived moratorium was enacted because of safety.

We all know this anti-oil stance was/is part of his "green" energy push. One of his problems is that there is NOTHING to replace this lost energy source with.

Bold: I thought it had to do with all that oil floating around in the gulf? Silly me for thinking that had anything to do with it.

Red: Nothing eh? No wind turbines? No Solar power? Currently we just have to replace that one rig. I'm sure we can find someway to replace it or manage with out the energy provided from it. Let me know when the East coast goes out because of that rig. Also you know oil is sold on the world market (its not like oil we get from the gulf is all ours immediately) so we aren't really loosing any actual oil, because it will still be coming from Egypt.

Just part of his plan to shove Cap & Trade down our throats next!! That along with the Health Care fiasco will surely bring this country to a screaming halt! It amazes me how anyone can still defend this Anti-American putz anymore. Bringing a law suit against Az. because he and the Govt. won't uphold the law will cost us millions more in court costs too! Way to go Obama!!

So we should stay dependent on foreign oil?

We will be depandant on foreign oil no matter how much we drill here. Let them go and pollute the waters off of Egypt, better them than us.

I'm assuming you read my post, so what I want you to do now is read it again (that part where all oil is sold on the world market) and then tell me whats the difference? I trust Egypt more than I trust the United states at this point. We have had Exxon Valdez and this Gulf of Mexico accident. If the United states could be more careful I wouldn't have a problem with them keeping some of the oil rigs or controlling so much oil, but we have proved that we cannot NOT **** things up.

If the refuse to put the check valves in and conduct business in a safe manner, let them go elsewhere.

The United States doesn't have enough oil to drill its way to independency. If we maximized the yield on what we have, we would be looking at 4-5% or our requirements, max.

Let them pollute somewhere else. We're going to have to buy foreign oil as long as we use oil at our current levels.

What part of supply and demand do you not understand? The less we have, whether it's sold on the world market or not, gives us LESS leverage against those who have it ( dollar devaluation). Now I do agree about not trusting the US right now but it's not a good idea to abandon our drilling, especially now in this economy.
