It's really quite simple.
  1. They own the land.
  2. There are other religious institutions and/or houses of worship in the same area.
  3. US law forbids discrimination on religious ground.
The rest is just hurt feelings.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. The truth is that until the books are opened the truth about whether the funding has come from organizations that also fund terrorism will not be known.

We don't need to take a vote. We all know the answer would be "NO". For all of our "big talk" when we are angry. Save for the occasional hiccup, Americans respect nothing more than the rights of the individual over the many.

Now if Muslims only had that same capability of respecting others this conversation would be moot.
You just might be surprised at the results of such a vote.

Default It's not a mosque... It's a community center with Basketball courts...

and a culinary school... The Republicans are politicizing this issue before elections to turn everyone against the Democrats.

Just like the Republicans are doing with any and everything else. The greed heads are terrified at the thought of what a progressive administration would do the privilege of the top one percent.

This contraversy is just another diversion.

BTW - this is a free country and any religion can build a worship house anywhere they want within the constraints of local law. I am not about to tell some Muslims they cannot build a Mosque lest they tell me I can't build a church where ever local zioning will let me. Everyone has the freedom to be annoying.

What do you mean the "republicans" are politicizing the issue?

There have been a few that have voiced their opinion, but most of the opposition is coming from normal, everyday people, like the 9/11 families.

It's not the Republicans folks. It's the media that is getting everyone up in arms.
If the media didn't plaster this 24/7 with every person's comments then it would NOT be a big deal.
It's a big deal because the media is making it a big deal.

The better question to ask is who is behind this media blitz ?
Why is this a bigger media deal then the catastrophic flooding in Pakistan ?

Who cares about the privileged one percent? It's the 53% of us that pay taxes that I am worried about.

I guess that is fine for the 47% who belong to the porch sitting and mailbox watching crowd. The check shows up and all is well!

What happens when you run out of other peoples money?

The elections are coming and we will be righting this ship. Count on it!

I could never begin to imagine what the 9/11 families went through but this issue is being used to satisfy a political agenda.
The community center is not 2 blocks away... it's more like 5 blocks away... you can't even see it from the World Trade Center site.
